You keep saying this, but I don't see any evidence of it. (At least, not from anyone in office who can vote against his policies)

Name one R senator currently in office that "hates" him.

Mccain too easy. Do you not recall the whole never Trump thing amongst the gop during the campaign season? I agree that now that Trump is potus things seem to have changed..but there are various explanations for that.

I think there are a few that do hate him (Jeff Flake comes to mind) but when that has zero effect on policy issues, who cares?

as long as he continues to get tax cuts for rich people, scotus picks that will disenfranchise non-whites, and tries to keep brown people out, the republicans wont raise a real word against him, nor will they vote against him.

those are the only real issues establishment republicans care about.

These are better phrased versions of the point I was trying to make.

I do. And I also remember just about all of them voting for him. "Never" means something different to them I guess.

but thanks though. i appreciate your analysis. i don't really understand what the dsa stand for. i think you probably do, so thanks for telling me they are right of kokiri and wellnamed corporate scum

i'm a little ashamed to admit that the thought of actually getting rid of capitalism kind of scares me a little. i'd do it, of course. **** all the non stop misery it causes. but it's still scary

had a very interesting guy at my poker table last night. he was 65 and he said he immigrated to US from soviet union in the 70s! he was wearing a "cccp" t-shirt and said soviet union was a paragon of virtue. i think he was joking, but he did seem like a proud soviet. and he was extremely educated and cultured.

he was trying to tell a joke and asked me if i was democrat or republican. he later told me his goal was to make me a little uncomfortable, and then relieve the tension with the punchline. but of course i wasn't uncomfortable at all. i said "f*ck them both. they are all corrupt corporate scum"

https://www.dsausa.org/where_we_stand

It's not clear to me at all that DSA is substantially to my right.

he was impressed and tickled when i pointed to him and said "i'll bet anyone $100 that this man knows the name of the first dog in space"

the first dog in space is famous in the soviet union. there is a statue of her in moscow. it's actually a kind of ****ed up story. iirc she was a street dog. they put her in a rocket and sent her into orbit with no way of coming back down

but she paved the way for gagarin(first man in space)

Why would the public not extract surplus value from any of its subsegments?

If the public is netting a loss of resources in one area of provision, perhaps a net gain in another might be appropriate?

And what of Genesis 41:35-36?

Move people from liberal arts/social sciences to science and that's a pretty big gain/subtraction of a loss.

The DHS 14 words is not a secret message, that's crazy talk. The original 14 words are the official policy of the Trump administration, they have been since he was a candidate. The administration by word and action supports white supremacy. A person who is openly opposed to white supremacy is less likely to be hired by this administration than a person who supports legal abortion.

Some examples in recent days:

* A person on the record supporting the KKK is working in the justice department with the job of screening candidates for judges.

* I saw a tweet from a lawyer who is representing a 5 year old in court. She has been separated from her family and has to appear solo in court for her asylum petition. Kids as young as 3 have to appear alone. This is why the phrase mockery of justice exists.

* The software used to decide which immigrants are jailed pending their hearings and which are allowed to appear on their court dates was modified to always return detain regardless of the input. No wait, this is why the phrase mockery of justice exists.

Unlimited cruelty to immigrants is the policy. Stephen Miller writes it, Donald Trump loves it, it gets implemented. Trump uses language to dehumanize immigrants which makes the cruelty easier. They think this is a winning issue for them. They are probably correct.

Saying the 14 words was unacceptable under the old rules. The ideas are now open and mainstream. This is who we are.

What has scientific progress really done for us, anyway? Destroyed the planet and made us more miserable with it. I think euthanasia is a bit harsh, but let’s just retrain the scientists as poets and gardeners and we’ll all be better off.

I feel the same about Tyler Cowen as I do Feynman - part admiration, part annoyance that I can’t quite put my finger on.

He might be trying too hard to win the "Reasonable Centrist" award? I'm amused though because I love Feynman. Maybe it's a thing.
