They don't even care anymore about saying the quiet part with a megaphone.

Was I the only white person taught not to pull out that junk until the police came up?

why do they point a loaded weapon at someone sitting at a computer in a bedroom?

Obviously.

Was just pointing out the fact such different stories exist in our world.

I was never taught this, asked my dad and said he never considered it. I always pulled it out before/as they were approaching and that story I shared was the only time an officer even mentioned it to me.

Chim and eye are two stories I don't really parse correctly apparently. Chim is a mundane cop interaction that somehow is bad? because of some phrase that is interpreted as racist?

In eye's trump story he said "democrats want the usps funded so they can do mail in voting but if they don't get funded they can't do mail in voting" and that's supposed to be meaningful?

Trump is trying to sabotage the USPS. Things like this are why:

Chim is saying what I have ALSO said in this thread many times.

We get special treatment because we're white (and possibly in my case because I'm a woman.) The differences between my interactions with the police vs some other people's is glaring and depressing. Not that I wish to be treated worse, but police should be serving and protecting everyone regardless of race or gender, and should be treating citizens with respect, especially ones that have yet to be convicted of any crime.

Window down, hands on the steering wheel. I assumed everyone knew that.
If I have my ID ready before he gets there then you can get it out but you can't be fishing around when they walk up.

supposedly this thread is way left of general american population, and dems in this thread have already said they will always vote the for lesser of two evils no matter how awful.
This is a pretty clear shot at me and makes it pretty ****ing obvious you misunderstood what I was saying. Not voting increases the chances of the largest negative outcome (trump reelection). It does not mean “ya I’m glad I get a choice between a small negative (Biden) and a large negative.” The time to have a better opponent than Biden has passed, and now if you live in a state where your vote is in any way mathematically worthwhile and you vote anyone other than Biden, the chances of the largest negative outcome go up.

What you do instead is work between elections to submit candidates and take other actions (eg, support ranked choice initiatives) that will lead to outcomes in which the choice isn’t always “the lesser of two evils.” But that pretty clearly failed in America in 2020, so a strategy of choosing to not vote or to vote third party increases the chances for re-election of the biggest ****ing dipshit on the planet. That outcome is more worse to me than the positive I’d get by third party protest voting, so I vote Biden.

Seen on Facebook today:

"Real talk. Kamala Harris could flat out shoot Trump in the middle of the street. I'm still voting Biden/Harris."

Pretty much this. If anything I would vote even faster.

Yes I can parse what you both think they mean.

Yeah this exactly
08-13-2020 , 03:28 PM
I'm not sure what the confusion is, I was saying exactly what VR is suggesting.
08-13-2020 , 03:43 PM
No confusion g really I just think the story is meaningless. A cop pulled you over and nothing happened.

Your thoughts are noted.

i understand you. i think. you want to get rid of trump so bad that you are willing to vote for anyone, not matter how awful as long as they aren't as bad as trump.

you think during an election is not the time to stand up to to corrupt democrats. you want to vote for the corrupt dems to get rid of the worse repubs. then when not voting in what you perceive as a binary election, THAT'S the time to stand up to corrupt dems.

i understand, i just disagree. i could write out a long history of how dems have screwed us over for decades, and that's why we don't have healthcare, and 3 million in prison, and a million homeless, and 100 million out of work, while the stock market goes up and up, and over 1k dying a day from a virus that could have fairly easily better contained. then everyone left of trump is told we have no choice, we have to vote for whoever the dems put up, even if they rig it to give us candidates we despise. **** that. **** the dems. i will never support them. they don't give a **** about me or you, or any of us. so i won't vote for them. ever. no matter what.

i will vote for someone i believe in. not as a protest, but because that's democracy.

Saw this random meme earlier. Had to Google to find it no clue on the Twitter poster.

Do you think that not voting/voting third party is an effective way of "standing up to corrupt democrats"?

no. but voting for them and telling everyone else to vote for them is much less effective way to stand up to them, right?
08-13-2020 , 10:11 PM
Tokyo is there anything the democratic party could do or support where you wouldn’t vote for them regardless of if the GOP was worse?

I object to this framing because it implies that by voting for a party you are happy to do so. More clearly, by voting for a democrat my rationale can be "standing up to republicans" because they pose a more acute danger to the country. In that case, a vote for a democrat better helps achieve the goal of unseating a republican than a null vote/third-party vote.

I understand that you disagree and are implying that your vote = affirmative support for a party (and it does for many voters), but that is not how I am approaching this discussion.

Depends on what you mean by "worse" (i.e., worse for me personally vs worse for America as a whole vs worse for more individual people even if America is overall economically better, etc.), but of course there are scenarios. But if we are assuming for your hypo that the GOP standard is the same as it is now and the dems have done something "worse," then voting game theory becomes quite a low priority.

oh yeah, i never thought you were happy to vote for biden. i mean my whole point is that you HATE biden and are voting for him anyway. but it sends a very clear message to the dems, to corporations, to all your family and friends, to me and birdman that you are willing to vote for a man who's spent his career taking bribes and locking people up, and his platform is basically destroying the planet.

anyway, i'm just the level 1 boss. birdman is the final boss
