fwiw, I view this whole Kavanaugh thing in the same light as I view a bunch of other stuff -- the current Republican leadership simply doesn't care about anything other than their own power. What's good for the country, their constituents, for individual people, any principles they may in theory have once had, have all been subsumed by an all-encompassing demand for total power. They are willing to say anything, and do anything, in furtherance of that goal.

I don't believe it's specifically about empowering probable rapists, or asserting dominance over women, or anything like that -- that those things happen are secondary to the singular goal.

It's so obviously transparent on so many levels that I'm not really interested in trying to engage on the issue of why in specific going hard in the paint for the probable rapist is a bad idea. That's talking at least one level above the Republicans. They don't care why. Morals don't apply. The only "moral" is sticking up for the Republican. All the other stuff is just dishonest window dressing.

Mets and Luckbox should go on Twitter and read the #whyididntreport hashtag. Hopefully the tide is turning.

Alyssa Milano is a great advocate for women. We need more people like her.

Knoblach out of his reelection bid in MN. His daughter went to the press about him violating her over the years.

I agree with most of what DWetzel said, although I do think it’s worth engaging on the specifics of why going hard in the paint for a probable abuser is a bad idea, because even though it probably is talking above the current GOP it shouldn’t be, and failing to do so on some level lets that kind of behavior stand and that’s really bad for victims imo

then again, the GOP might actually just be a coalition of monsters for whom power is merely an incidental achievement

Word of warning: Do NOT read the responses to the people ikn the whyididntreport hashtag. Unless you want to watch the entire world burn because it's the only way to actually cleanse us of the monsters that exist amongst us.

**** me, I'm disgusted.

You can call it whatever you want but I refuse to read that stuff (the responses not the reports themselves).

So it seems to me that Republicans are currently executing a strategy of floating a series of trial balloons to see if any of them are a politically palatable way of confirming Kavanaugh without a coordinated smear campaign against the victim. “Rough Horseplay” seemed like the first one, the “mistaken identity” disaster seemed like another. The pretend to want her to testify but refuse to make reasonable accommodations for her to do so plan seems to be the one that is working out best so far, but I’m guessing they might have some private polling to indicate that there might be some significant backlash if they actually did it without discrediting her in some way first.

At this point I’m just waiting for the real attacks against her to start (I really hope I’m wrong) but they seem to be running out of other options

Respectfully, I believe my right to not be civil to a man who says horrifically misogynistic things trumps your right to tell me not to.

I won't argue against any thread sanctions, but sanctions won't be the thing that makes me stop fighting back.

Well isnt that quite the luxury!

YOU SHOULD READ THEM. Then maybe you'd feel 10% of how angry women are these days.

I mean huge lol at the rules saying that what mets says counts as "civil" and what I say back doesn't.

#mother****ingpatriarchy

Men defending attempted rapists - "civil"

Women saying **** you- "not civil"
