And everyone is working too hard. For sure.

Yeah that also
08-20-2018 , 05:39 PM
Like teachers undoubtably work too hard and are under-compensated. The counter to that is not to then compare them to other jobs—because those other jobs are probably also over worked and under compensated

Isn't that what we've been doing?

I think we can all agree: A pro-poker player is EZ street, made in the shade cushy.

not sure if you're joking or serious.

obviously contribution to society is basically nothing. and pay can be absurdly high. but there is def a ton of stress and heartbreak. it's really conducive to a terrible lifestyle... sleep habits, substance abuse, physical inactivity

i've gone 18 months losing money.

this month i'm down about 10k

It would only be racist if the south Koreans had a problem too

*unless you're trying to argue that the south and North Koreans are separate races, in which case lol

Let me give an example and people itt can tell me if they think it sounds racist

“Good to see Harlem is behaving like a civilized community”

Not really. The orientalist (racist) view of Korea is that South Korea has been civilized by the West while the DPRK remains “uncivilized” because they are not under the influence of Western culture et al.

if Harlem was a government that forcibly kept its people locked in Harlem and wouldn't let people leave to see their families for 60 years, this would be an apt comparison

but it's not, so instead it's drooling idiocy
08-21-2018 , 10:09 AM
birdman do you actually believe half the drivel you spout?

dont give an example

actually read dwetzels post above

you do realize that Kim made sure the meeting of families was short because he didnt want them being influenced by western culture

I was just trolling. It might be marginally racist. People probably say Russia acts uncivilized and are only sometimes accused of racism against against slavs.

But you can probably argue that the concept of being civilized is racist by itself. I'm fine with some normative views though. Like if the culture believes in doing all sorts of bad stuff or behaving crudely, I think using the term uncivilized is fine.
08-21-2018 , 10:19 AM
is it racist that, every I time I read the word "uncivilized", it has a British accent?
08-21-2018 , 10:29 AM
The question for Birdman is if Mets had said simply: it's good to see the north Koreans behaving

Would that still be racist?

I think it would but then can the north Koreans do no wrong? Obviously they can. So it's a tricky spot. You want to encourage good behaviour but you don't want to be patronizing either.
08-21-2018 , 10:42 AM
im watching the donna chang episode of seinfeld right now on tbs

now this is racist
08-21-2018 , 10:54 AM
but no i am not racist for saying i am glad north korea is acting like a civilized nation by allowing it's residents to see their family from south korea

they have not allowed them to see their family ever

that is uncivilized

so no i am not racist and you are insane for calling that racist
