The man is toxic. He is an admitted charlatan and an unrepentant doomsayer. He has zero journalistic integrity, yet he portrays himself as the savior of news media. He convinces broad swaths of insecure and/or ignorant people to believe the worst about others; he captures healthy skepticism and corrupts it into a fatalistic misanthropy.
His sole redeeming quality, sheer entertainment value, is grossly outweighed by the social detriment he sews in holding himself out as one telling truth-to-power.
If I ran a newspaper, I would not publish his editorials.

Aside from my issue with using the phrase, "the left", I guess a soft "yes" is appropriate, in that most people want to stifle freedom of thought - I don't want you to think about robbing me, for example.
Technically, what we (charitably) see here is not an attack on freedom of thought but on freedom of expression. Still, I don't want you to tell everybody that I fornicate with pigs or that I pointed a gun at you.
The stroke, "to stifle freedom of thought/expression", is too broadly applied the way you are doing so. We are not presented with a situation in which one presents evidence and then is excluded from the public space simply because the evidence makes people uncomfortable. Our situation is rather one in which one fabricates evidence, is exposed for fabricating said evidence (or said evidence is so facially ridiculous that nobody could reasonably believe it to be true, ie "Obama attracts flies because he is a literal demon"), and then continues to propound such evidence to some drastic and destructive end.
