I will repost the rules here:

Obviously, no engines of any kind. Not even your old Fritz 5.32.
All other forms of research are allowed.
The tournament consists of rounds.
There will be a 72 hour limit to make a move. After the first time this time limit is breached, the offender gets a warning. Second and third time it happens, that player loses the game. The fourth time, that player is awarded a loss in all of his or her not-completed games.
Moves are to be submitted in a game thread, in algebraic notation only, and c&p'ing the previous moves of that game. This is to avoid confusion between games. Diagrams are very welcome, but not obligatory, since this forum does not appear to support FEN codes.
The rounds will (obviously) be published before the tournament starts.
The new round will start when all the games scheduled for the previous round have been celebrated
Wins are worth 1 point, draws are worth 1/2 points and losses are worth 0 points.

Two more important rules:

Players should not discuss a game until it the game is over.
Railbirds are free to leave their comments (i.e. make fun of us) but are required to use spoilers. Obviously, no one is to read the spoilers until the game is over.

There has been some discussion about the rules.

Here is my opinion.

Cliffs: I am open to changing the rules but only if every player unanimously agrees the the proposals in the sign-up thread. Proposals may be left in the sign-up thread or PM'd to me. They may also be freely discussed in the sign-up thread, but not there.
(please do not discuss games in the sign-up thread).

gambit8888, iamnotawerewolf, LordJvK and rtspurs have 72 hours to submit their first move (they are allowed to take less time than that, though).

Should LordJvK agree to change the thinking time to 48h/move, that will be the time limit from the second move on. Everyone else has agreed to that change.

Announcement

The maximum allotted time per move has been unanimously cut to 48h.
Every player that is yet to make their first move will still have their 72h, though hopefully it will take them less than that.

From the second move on, the new time limit will be enforced.
