Welcome to POG Anniversary XV's game thread.
This game was designed and will be moderated by bopolis and UncleDynamite.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Arapocalypse for helping us with the flavour for some of our new players and to No Lynches for Event testing.

IT IS NIGHT. DO NOT POST.

The Seven Cardinal Rules of Werewolf

  1. Do not edit your posts.
  2. Do not claim your character, or hint at it.
  3. Do not reference private communications from the moderators.
  4. Do not be a shite.
  5. Do not nightpost. :00 GOOD, :01 BAD, 02: MODKILL.
  6. Do not deadpost. A single "Am I alive?" post is fine.
  7. Werewolf is a participation game.

Werewolf Rules and Etiquette

If you are new, please click here.
If you are not, you should know what's up. But no one will tell you anything if you click all the same. Just in case.

Moderator's Note:

After getting acquainted with some research on the matter, I have changed my stance on the r-word. I now consider it a slur (I previously did not) and any further usage of this word may be punished by modkill.

STILL NIGHT, NO POSTING.

Deadlines
  1. Day will usually break at 9AM EST.
  2. Night will fall at 9PM EST sharp.
  3. Day Actions may not be submitted during the first and the last hour of the day.
  4. For night 0 only, the Night Action deadline is set at 8AM EST.
  5. From night 1 on, the Night Action deadline will be set set at 7AM EST.

Win Conditions

Role PMs do not have win conditions in them.
  1. The village win condition is: “the village wins when it has eliminated all threats to the village”.
  2. The werewolf win condition is: “the werewolves wins when they cannot be mechanically prevented from eliminating all threats to the werewolves.”
  3. Other win conditions, which may or may not exist, will not be disclosed here.

STILL NIGHT, NO POSTING.

Moderator Account

Elminster Aumar is the sole moderator account for this game. All Day Actions, Night Actions and questions need to be submitted to that account only. Do not PM bopolis or UncleDynamite - For all intents and purposes, bopolis and UncleDynamite are not to be considered moderator accounts.

Things not to do
  1. Do not talk about subs and modkills.
  2. Do not invoke for moderator decisions in the game thread. PM the mod account instead.
  3. You have signed up, so we expect you to participate. If you are unable to participate at all, please PM the moderator account. and we will try to sub you out. Please have a good reason: "I'm a rustled by this game" or "I don't want to play anymore" requests will be promptly turned down.
  4. Players who failed to post at least or 10 times per day risk being subbed out or modkilled.
  5. Players who failed to post at least 10 times by EOD but are not modkilled, will be mod-roleblocked for that night. Unroleblockable actions are inefficient against mod roleblocks.
  6. If you have means of outside-the thread communications, do not post the text of such communications in the game thread (fully or in part).

Claiming
  1. Do not character claim. Do not hint at your character. This is an instant modkill.
  2. Do not claim or hint at your flavour. This is an instant modkill.
  3. You may claim your Stats, your Attributes or your Perks, if you think that is wise.
  4. Do not quote your role PM. Do not copy/paste it. Do not screenshot it. That's a paddl... you guessed it, an instant modkill.
  5. Do not talk about unrevealed role PMs. We will judge this situation case by case, but never has the "better safe than sorry" proverb been more appropriate than in this case.
  6. If you are (or were) playing in this game, live or dead, do not talk about the game, to anyone, outside the game thread and private chats that may have been granted you by the game moderators.

Unclaimable Roles
  1. This game may or may not have unclaimable roles and abilities. If you rand such a role or have such an ability, you may not claim your role or that ability, or hint at them. If you break this rule, you will get modkilled.
  2. If you have an unclaimable ability, you may not claim that ability name; if you have an unclaimable role, you may not claim your rolename.
  3. You may claim to have an unclaimable role or ability, if you think that is wise.

About modding
  1. Unless the description says otherwise, Day Actions may not be proxied.
  2. If you have submitted a Night Action or a Day Action that warrants information feedback, you will receive a reply from us.
  3. If you submit a Night Action that warrants no information feedback (such as a vanilla action, a Night Angel or a Roleblock, should such actions be in the game) you will not receive feedback from us. Not even a "Processed" (unless we have a lot of extra time in the morning). The reason for this is that there will be simply too many things to process each night, and we will not have enough time to send you "processed" messages.
  4. If your Night or Day action had an expectation for information return, and something has denied that information to you (basic example: you have tried to peek someone and have been roleblocked) you will receive a "No Result" result.
  5. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, your Night and Day actions are not compulsory. If they are not submitted, they will not be processed and will not be randomized. This applies to the wolf team nightkill.
  6. If player A roleblocks player B and player B roleblocks player C, player C are not roleblocked.
  7. You are allowed to pre-submit your Night and Day Actions.
  8. Please note that should your Day Actions be submitted before 10AM EST, and another action be also submitted before 10AM EST, but after the first one, and a third action be submitted exactly at 10AM EST, the 3 actions will be processed simultaneously (at 10AM EST, of course).

Night Angels, Extra Lives and Silent ITAs
  1. If a player was Night Angeled on night (X-1), abilities that protect that player from death on night (X) will fail. Example: if player A is Night Angeled on night 1, Night Angels that target player A on night 2 will fail.
  2. Should mechanics that provide extra lives, or players with extra lives be present in the game, the daily Elimination will void all those lives.
  3. Should mechanics that allow players to submit Silent ITA or attacks be present in the game, no public feedback on such attacks will be provided unless the target of the silent ITA shot is dead. For each silent attack, the silent shooter will have the right to one fake, public attack that will always fail.

Events
  1. Here is a link to the Event thread
  2. While players are playing in Events, they may not be targeted by Day Actions from other players.
  3. Some Events may have a risk of death. Enter at your own caution, because you will not be notified whether such risks are there.
  4. No research in Events (unless stated otherwise) no collaboration or sandbagging in Events, and no discussion of ongoing Events in private chats.

Other useful notes
  1. Please do not PM the moderator account for futile reasons during the game.
  2. Discord will be useful to have for certain Events. It will be outright necessary for some of them. Feel free to add us on Discord: we are mmmBop#6041 and UncleDynamite#2922.

STILL NIGHT, NO POSTING.

Stats and Attributes

Each player starts the game with two Attributes (Hit Points and Fate) and three Stats: Spamming, Tryharding and Chutzpah.

Flavour note: if you are wondering why the player that randed the role named after you has a Spamming of 8, even though you aren't a spammer at all, know that this is mostly done for the sake of game mechanics. Do not take the stats of the role named after you personally.

Hit Points (or HPs)
  1. Your Hit Points (HPs from now on) are always pre-determined at the start of the game. These are your maximum HPs.
  2. While not a common occurrence, it is possible for your Maximum HPs to decrease. If this happens, you will be informed.
  3. If your HPs reach 0, you will join the choir invisible Dead Village Chat. In other words, you will die.
  4. There are ways for you to die even if your HPs are above 0. Getting lynched or getting modkilled are obvious examples, but there are certain abilities in the game (like vigilante shots) that bypass HPs entirely.
  5. Your HPs will typically regenerate to their maximum number right after each lynch reveal.
  6. Even if you do find a way to regenerate your HPs, they may never exceed their maximum number.
  7. Typically, players are not informed if they receive or lose HPs.
  8. HPs can (and often should) be used to pass Tests. More on Tests below.

Fate
  1. Most players (or all. Who knows? Well... we do) will start the game with no Fate points.
  2. Fate points are typically gained as Event prizes.
  3. Fate points are used for passing Tests and in order to gain Perks. Both Tests and Perks will be discussed below, in future modposts.
  4. Fate points may or may not have other uses, which will not be discussed here.

Spamming, Tryharding and Chutzpah
  1. Unless you have received a vanilla villager on night 0 (see the relevant OP for more information) your Spamming, Tryharding and Chutzpah values are (probably) set in stone from the beginning. There might be exceptions to this rule, however.
  2. On night 0, each of your 3 Stats has a minimum starting value of 1 and a maximum starting value of 9.
  3. There might be ways to increase these stats, but accomplishing this will not be a mean feat. It is also possible for these stats to decrease; that, too, will be quite uncommon.
  4. If your Spamming, Tryharding or Chutzpah stats change, you will be informed of what happened.
  5. On night 0, the sum of your Spamming, Tryharding and Chutzpah numbers will be equivalent to the number of your maximum HPs.

A note for those who can choose their Stats
  1. Players that receive a vanilla villager role PM and other players (if there are any) that may choose their own Stats (within the limits outlined above) need to do so on night 0.
  2. If they fail to do so, they will be able to choose their Stats on day 1, as long as they do it before making their first post.
  3. Players who fail to do both will have points evenly distributed between their Spamming, Tryharding and Chutzpah.

STILL NIGHT, NO POSTING.

Tests

Tests are the heart of this game. Some Events, as well as many Night or Day Actions, will feature Tests, both Simple and Opposed.

Simple Tests
  1. In order to pass a Simple Test, the players will test their Spamming, Tryharding or Chutzpah stats against a natural number (the exact stat that is being tested, as well as the number, will be typically indicated by the moderator).
  2. If the relevant stat is equal or higher than the natural number, the Test is passed. Otherwise, it is failed.

Opposed Tests
  1. In order to pass an Opposed Test, there must be a situation where player A (who is attempting the Opposed Test) is targeting player B.
  2. If the player A's relevant stat is higher (not equal or higher!) than player B's, player A passes the Opposed Test. Otherwise, the test is failed.
  3. The player who is being targeted by someone who is attempting to pass an Opposed Test, may typically NOT use HPs or Fate Points to make the Opposed Test more difficult.

Sacrificing HPs and Fate Points
  1. While attempting a Test, players may sacrifice X HPs to increase the relevant stat by X, for that Test alone. This boost will disappear for all other Tests attempted for the same night, even if they use the same stat that has been boosted for the last Test.
  2. While attempting a Test, players may sacrifice Y Fate points to increase the relevant stat by 3*Y, for that Test alone. This boost will disappear for all other Tests attempted for the same night, even if they use the same stat that has been boosted for the last Test.
  3. If players want, they are allowed to sacrifice both HPs and Fate points in order to pass a Test.
  4. If a player sacrifices all of their HPs in order to pass a Simple Test, they will survive, fail the Test, and be left with 1HP. They will not learn what has happened.
  5. If a player sacrifices all of their HPs in order to pass an Opposed Test, they will typically die (lose one life).
  6. If a player sacrifices HPs and/or Fate Points to pass an Opposed Test and still fails it, he or she will not get them back.

Deliberately Failing Tests, or Choosing not to attempt Tests
  1. If, during an Event, a player is faced with a Test and decides that they do not want to sacrifice HPs and/or Fate Points to pass it, they may choose to Fail it. This, of course, will have consequences, but are they going to be more or less severe than sacrificing HPs or Fate Points? That decision is left to the player.
  2. Players may also decide to fail a Test even if they could pass it without sacrificing HPs or Fate Points. That is probably not a wise decision, but who knows? Maybe you are a genius and know what are you doing.
  3. Unless it is indicated that Night or Day Actions are compulsory, they are not. Thus, if a player has a Night or Day Action that comes with a Test, and they do not want to attempt it, they may choose not to. They will not be penalized for such a decision.

Having your Tests voided
  1. If you attempt a Test, but such a Test is voided (here is a typical example: you submit a Test, but you get roleblocked) you will fail the Test. If you spent HPs and Fate points for this Test, you will not actually spend them.
  2. Unless your Test an informative result upon success, you will not be informed of what happened.

Examples

Example 1
Quote:
Player A, who has 6 Spamming, has the following Night Action:

Quote:
Every night, starting night 1, you may Night Vig a player (Simple Test, Spamming, 8).
If player A wants to Night Vig someone, they must sacrifice 2 HPs or 1 Fate Point to pass it.
Example 2

Quote:
Player B, who has 7 Tryharding, has the following Night Action:

Quote:
Every night, starting night 1, you may Night Vig a player (Opposed Test, Tryharding).
If player B wants to Night Vig someone, their Tryharding must be higher than their opponent's. Should they sacrifice HPs or Fate Points to increase their Tryharding for that test? Should they decline to do so, and hope their target's Tryharding is 6 or less? Who knows!
Example 3

Quote:
Player C, who has 7 Chutzpah, has the following Night Action:

Quote:
Every night, starting night 1, you may target two players (player A and player B) and roleblock them (Opposed Test, Chutzpah for each target).
Here is the important thing to remember: you need to pass one Opposed Chutzpah Test for each player you wish to roleblock. This means that if player C uses 3HPs in order to attempt to boost their Chutzpah to 10 for roleblocking player A, their Chutzpah will be back to 7 when they attempt to roleblock player B (unless player C sacrifices HPs and/or Fate points for that Test as well.

ITAs

ITAs: general rules
  1. ITAs will be held starting day 2 and last until the end of the game.
  2. There will be two ITA periods per day (again, starting day 2). Both of them will last 1 hour.
  3. The first and the second session will start at 12PM EST and at 5PM EST.
  4. Unless their role PM says otherwise, players may typically ITA attack once per day (not per ITA session).
  5. ITA shots on dead players will typically be refunded.
  6. Please wait for the moderators to declare ITAs to be open before shooting. Players that attack in ITAs before the moderators declare an ITA period to be open will not have their shots refunded (even if the moderators are late).
  7. If a shot is badly formatted (see the next paragraph for correct ITA formatting) the offending player will be required to submit another shot on the same player as soon as possible. Failure to do so may result in punishment.

ITAs: specifics
  1. Each ITA shot is an Opposed Test with a rather unpleasant catch. Here it is:
    1. You may not spend Fate points on your ITA shot.
    2. In order to increase the Stat you are using (more on this later) by X, you will need to use 2*X HPs (instead of X, like you usually would).
  2. While attacking in ITAs, you will automatically use the highest of your Stats.
  3. If there is a tie between 2 or 3 of your Stats, please PM the moderator account the Stat you will use for your incoming ITA shot (i.e. you need to do this before posting your ITA attack). Should you fail to do this, the Stat you will use for your ITA shot will be randomized.
  4. When attacking in ITAs, you may also sacrifice HPs (the correct amount should be specified in the post in which you are shooting). It bears repeating, however, that unlike other Tests, you will need to spend 2*X HPs to boost your Test by X.
  5. Naturally, you do not have to sacrifice HPs to boost your ITA shot if you don't want to.
  6. When you boost your ITA shot with HP, the boost will only be applied for that specific ITA shot.
  7. If the Opposed Test is passed, the player that was shot will suffer the difference between the respective stats. Otherwise, the attacker will (if the Test ends in a tie, neither will suffer any damage).
  8. All ITA shots should be posted in bold red, and their target should be clear.
  9. If you attempt to enhance ITA shots with HPs you do not have, you will probably die, and the ITA shot will be processed with the biggest boost that you could actually afford.
  10. Here are examples of correct formatting: Shoot confirmedtroll 2, Annihilate confirmedtroll, Cleave confirmedtroll in twain, 4.

ITA shots: feedback
  1. "Processed" (for all public, legal shots that do not result in anyone's death). Who lost HPs, and how many, will typically not be made public.
  2. "Incorrect shot, you schmuck" if you **** up. Do not **** up, please.
  3. "[insert quoted post with the shot] Player A is dead. [Insert Player A's role PM]" in case of a lethal, public ITA shot.
  4. "A silent shot has killed player A. [Insert Player A's role PM]" in case of a lethal, silent ITA shot.
  5. Silent shots that do not result in ITA outcomes will not receive public feedback.

Examples of how ITA shots process
  1. Example 1: Player A, whose highest Stat is Spamming (7) posts Shoot player B, 2. For the purpose of our example, Player B's Spamming is 4. Player A has boosted their Spamming to 8 for this ITA shot by paying 2HPs for a +1 boost. This means that Player B will suffer 4 damage, because 8-4=4. Player A suffers 2 HPs worth of damage, because that is what Player A sacrificed.
  2. Example 2: Player C, whose highest Stat is Tryharding (8) posts Shoot player D. For the purpose of our example, Player D's Tryharding is 5. Player C did not boost their ITA shot by sacrificing HPs, but turns out their Tryharding is better than Player D's Tryharding anyway. As a result, player D suffers 3 8-5=3 HPs worth of damage, and player C suffers no damage.
  3. Example 3: Player E, whose highest Stat is Chutzpah (7) posts Shoot player F. For the purpose of our example, Player F's Chutzpah is 8. Player E will suffer 1HP worth of damage and Player F will remain unscathed.

STILL NIGHT, NO POSTING.

Perks
  1. If you can afford a perk, you may acquire it by PMing the moderator account.
  2. You may only purchase Perks during the day.
  3. Each perk has a Downside, which can be disabled by paying the price (in Fate Points) listed in the "downside" column.
  4. Whenever N is listed as a price in the table below, it is equal to the number of the day in which the Perk is purchased. Whenever applicable, the cost is always rounded up.
  5. You may choose to purchase the Perk and pay to disable the Downside at a later date. However, the price you will be charged for disabling the Downside will be calculated based on the day you disable the Downside, not on the day on which you purchase the Perk.
  6. You may not purchase the same Perk more than once during the game.
  7. You can find a list of Perks below (there may or may not be other perks that are currently not public).

Vanilla Actions and Freedom of Choice
  1. Unlike most (or all? Who knows...) Power Roles, vanilla villagers will be able to allocate X points among their 3 Stats on night 0 (where X is equal to the number of their maximum HPs).
  2. Vanilla Villagers have no other inherent active abilities other than their vanilla abilities, which are posted below.
  3. It is very important that you submit your vanilla actions. Not only your vanilla action may contribute to you (or someone else) receive an important Night Action, you might actually be a village PR in disguise.
  4. That's right: some of the players that will receive a vanilla villager role PM on night 0 are actually unconscious Village Power Roles, and the Vanilla Actions they are submitting do something else entirely. You do not want to miss out on a Night Action, do you?

Unconscious Village Power Roles
  1. Unconscious Village Power Roles will receive a vanilla villager role PM on night 0.
  2. As mentioned above, their vanilla actions will do something else entirely. Hence, they will usually not count as vanilla actions.
  3. However, if Unconscious Village Power Roles spend HPs and/or Fate Points to boost their fake vanilla actions (which they thought were real) these fake vanilla action will actually count as real vanilla action (in addition to the things these actually did under the guise of vanilla actions).

Sample Vanilla Villager role PM

Quote:
[insert picture]

XXX, you are playername.

[insert flavour]

In this game, you are a vanilla villager, and you have the following abilities:

i) Stats:
  1. You start the game with X Hit Points.
  2. This means that you may allocate X points between Spamming, Tryharding and Chutzpah. This action is due on night 0, and you may allocate at least 1 and at most 9 points among each of these 3 Stats.
  3. You start the game with 0 Fate Points.

ii) Vanilla Actions: On night 0, you may only submit the Investigate Action. Every night, starting night 1, you may (and should!) all of these Vanilla Actions.
  1. Investigate: Target a player. Depending on either the number or the percentage of vanilla villagers that investigate your target, a villager (that may or may not be vanilla) may receive some kind of information about your target.
  2. Enhance: Target a player. Depending on either the number or the percentage of vanilla villagers that enhance your target, said target may receive a benefit or be targeted by a protective action. Depending on the benefit or on the action, this may happen during that night, the following day, or both.
  3. Thwart: Target a player. Depending on either the number or the percentage of vanilla villagers that thwart your target, said target may suffer a negative effect.

Notes and Restrictions:
  1. Vanilla Actions may not be tracked or watched.
  2. Please remember that your vanilla role PM might be fake, and you may actually be a Powerrole whose vanilla actions hide very real abilities.
  3. You may not target the same player with the same vanilla action during consecutive nights.
  4. You may, however, target the same player with different vanilla action during consecutive nights.
  5. It is worth mentioning again that vanilla Actions may not be tracked or watched.

iii) Vanilla Opposed Tests:
  1. Whenever you target someone with a vanilla action, you perform an Opposed Test. Unlike standard Opposed Tests, a tie in the relative stat will be counted as your win.
  2. For the Investigate, Enhance and Thwart vanilla action, you will perform a Chutzpah, Tryhard and Spamming Opposed Test respectively.
  3. If you fail your Opposed Test, you will still submit your target once.
  4. If you win your Opposed Test by X points, you will submit your target X+2 times.
  5. As usual, you are allowed to sacrifice HPs and Fate points to improve your Opposed Test, if you think that is wise.

Mod Q&A:

Q: May I increase one of my stats beyond 9 with the Mulligan perk?
A: Yes.

Q: If I buy a Perk and buy out its Downside on the same day, do both prices round up?
A: Yes. For example, if you buy Mulligan on d1 and buy out its Downside on the same day, it will cost you 2 Fate Points (and not 1).

STILL NIGHT, NO POSTING.

Mod Q&A, part two

Q: If I spend HPs to pass a Test, do my HPs regenerate, or are they lost forever?
A: All HP losses (from Tests or ITA shots) are regenerated right after the lynch reveal.
