Am I penalising this song for a self-congratulatory "woah" at the end? possibly. But it doesn't do much for me as a song even though the lyrics are good at points.
I'm really sorry to do this but I've realised the problem with doing this mostly off the cuff... I've got about 4 songs that I cannot order and all need a couple of relistens but it's almost 2am and I'm falling asleep, so I will resume tomorrow. (you waited months, what's another day, right?)
This is pure nostalgia for me. Loved SOAD as a teen as I watched Michael Moore films and protested the Iraq war. This is definitely a fun song that I haven't listened to in over a decade.
This is a protest anthem. I can see this playing at a protest, or maybe before hand to hype you up. Its very uncomplicated, but all you fascists are bound to lose.
The Revolution Will Not Be Televised by Gil Scott-Heron
This is a classic song that I had heard of but never listened to before. It's a great bit of early rap/poetry that still rings true today. The revolution will not be televised.
The youtube link that was provided didn't work for me but instead of delaying the reveal further I went and found another youtube of the song. Apologies if it's an inferior verson of the song but it is the offical video.
Spoiler:
Schüsse in die Luft by Kraftklub
It's in german so I don't know what they are talking about but this is really enjoyable. Some kind of indie rock/pop/rap fusion that works.
One thing I love about UK hip hop is massive booming beats and this has one big one that really drives this song. I can feel the anger behind this one. I really like this.
I didn't think I'd hear such a beautiful song in this category and have it still be a cateogory fit, but this is that. I didn't know Sinéad O'Connor outside of Nothing Compares 2U but her voice here is awesome.
