Are we now trying to post the most obscure stuff possible? I thought there was a clause specifically against that in the OP.

@ sl8a

Isn't that what "the regulars" are doing all the time? 90% of the movies that are being posted are impossible to guess by people that are not movie fanatics imo

But I understand that if only hollywood movies were being posted then there wouldn't be any challenge for those people

+1

It's hard to find that middle ground. I watch a ton of non-mainstream films, but most of the film buffs have seen the ones I'd post. I don't watch mainstream movies, really, and I figure they'll get enough posts without me.

When you intentionally post something impossible to figure out, then it gets unnecessarily frustrating imo.

You mean something like a British television drama produced in 1984?

I don't think Threads is anywhere near the most obscure movie we've had. The thread doesn't usually stall from people not been able to guess the movie but it does happen, usually its from people not taking their turn.

For the most part the balance is right, it would be boring if every post was the main actor from a movie most people have seen. Its meant to be a bit of challenge. It works best if when posting an easy movie you post a tricky shot, with an obscure movie you can post shots that can give little clues, known actors etc, remember research IS allowed.

You have to remember too that this thread has been going for years, it has over 20,000 posts, people get stuck for ideas.

Of course I'm not asking to post this:

I just wiki most films ITT after they are guessed and I don't know them. The first sentence on Threads' Wikipedia page happens to be what I quoted above, and I thought it was a bit extreme posting TV productions of the 80s.

There are so many movies that are well known enough and can still pose a good enough challenge. I posted the wrestling scene in the beginning of Highlander and even though I was unlucky enough to have a hardcore Highlander fan being online who literally a minute after I posted guessed it right, for most people this would have been a challenge while still being a film most of us would have seen.

No personal attack Megloooo, but how many regular posters in this thread did you expect to have even heard about Threads, much less seen it, much less guessed it?

I agree with most of what you say, but tv movies are rare in the first place, and when we add the British/80s factors, then it is nearly impossible even with research.

I'm a pretty good researcher (got one or two already through research), but

tv + British + 1980s = nearly impossible

Now, if you're from the UK like yourself, then it may not be as hard.

The tv part, though, is what threw me off. I wouldn't have even thought to research tv movies since I consider them separate from "regular" movies. I wasn't aware this was allowed since there are sooooooo many films to choose from anyways. I suppose it would broaden the possibilities for posts, but I'm sure that the chance of them not being answered correctly is exponentially higher.

On second thought, I don't think it's ever raining in that film.

It's been a while since I've watched it last.
