I saw the remake first, and as it usually happens in such cases, I lean toward the remake.

Aside from the lead actor, who was terrific in both, I'd say the acting was generally better in the remake. Especially with "the 3rd aventurer in the trio", who is terribad in the original. I also like how they used a common musical theme to tie the whole film together as one long quest that's fulfilled in the end.

Yes, I definitely agree with your first comment. I have no doubt that the remake will be the better movie, from the people involved. The original seems a little dated these days, from what I remember about the last time I saw it.
