Do you like Tom Hanks as an actor?
His early work was a little too juvenile for my tastes, but when Philadelphia came out in '93, I think they really came into his own, commercial and artistically. The film has a clear, crisp look, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gave his career a big boost. He's been compared to Cary Grant, but I think Tom has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.
In '2000, Tom released Castaway , his most accomplished film. I think his undisputed masterpiece are the scene's with him and wilson, a scene so sad, most people probably don't bother thiking about the underlying message of loneliness. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the actor himself.
