No. It predates Woody but it does examine the deterioration of commercial cinema and the inherent failure of sexual relationships (common Woody themes)

Scorsese borrowed heavily from it in one of his movies, including using the fantastic score.

bah late...good job on Contempt (if anyone hasn't seen that, you need to watch it about 4 times)

Re Sayles: I always love it when an actor breaks into the mainstream through the indie ave: Joe Morton was great in Speed, but would he ever even get a read for that if it weren't for John Sayles?

It was. Ricky Jay is another. He's not huge but Paul Thomas Anderson usually finds a role for him...have you ever seen his show "Ricky Jay and his 52 Assistants" (which Mamet directed)? Amazing card mechanics.

This one is totally unrelated, but should be pretty easy...
