Sorry, will write it up later, but the fact that they successfully eliminated about 20 words just from "golf" was problematic haha.

GG all, great cluing Arctic.

So I planned on just waiting until the next day when I was on a computer to clue & had a chance to write down my thoughts, but looked at the board, & European jumped out at me.

I thought it would clue toward Atlantis & Kangaroo, while cluing away from Germany, Embassy, Club & Crown (the assassin). Seemed like a no-brainer, & since I didn't give it enough thought, I missed possible connections such as Trip & Film that would come back to haunt me, as well as that Atlantis was a Greek Mythology thing & not just some tropical mythological island that's not in Europe, plus a Caribbean resort. So yeah, pretty poor, but at least you got Kangaroo?

After Kangaroo came off, I clued animal to knock off Ivory as that was one that you guys had tossed around as not European, which makes sense, & also definitely Fly, then was hoping to dissuade you from Spike & Chest as well. Pants was an interesting quasi-connection that I missed, but that didn't cause a problem.

Next was Knot. Don't think it would have mattered, but I thought it was interesting neither of you noticed that I capitalized it, to the point where dizzy posted a board with knot being lower case, & I had to fix it on a later iteration.

I was glad it steered you toward Pants & Button. Wasn't confident it would, but had some hope deep down. I was primarily trying to knock out as many other words as possible. Tie, Lock, Square (Dizzy was right, I don't know many knots, but this is a common one) were the regular knot ones. Then I capitalized Knot for 2 possible connections: 1) Knott's Berry Farm (clue away from Berry obviously, & maybe Shop) & 2) The Knot is a wedding website, so was hoping to maybe knock off Limousine or throw a tiny bit of shade on Chest.

Finally, with the last clue I kinda figured we had to finish, but didn't really know how to get there as I didn't know all your thoughts on things. I knew I had to get you back onto Trip & knock out some of the other words you were considering, so I thought parked was the best bet.

Was going for Limousine, Shop, Club, Lock & even maybe Crown if that crept into your minds (Crown Victoria).

I couldn't really get you off Chest harder than the subtle allusion earlier, & I found out how strong your aversion was to European Film.

Don't think I could have done anything more after my sloppy 1st clue & Arctic's artful one, & you guys did really well to get as close as you did.

Clues were good, as always.

I really was not sure how to approach this. I read the first game of the 4v4 Codenames 0 and just went from there.

I thought JM3 schooled me a couple of times. First, the European clue screamed Kangaroo (what could be more non-European than a kangaroo). Also, the parked clue hinted at trip being a polar opposite. I was looking for opportunities to do the same as JM3 but could not see them.

Anyway, when I started with golf 0 I think I eliminated 11 words, with a good balance of theirs and neutrals and the assassin (round, shop, club, crown).

The talk about laser by insanity put me in an odd spot.(and BTW, I thought golf would have eliminated this....rangefinder???) If I clued away from it it basically confirms to insanity to go for it. But, if I don’t clue away from it then our team may see that as a signal to pick it. Seems like I can’t win on that one. In retrospect it felt like insanity baited me into moving on it one way or another (and good on him if he did). So, I went printer 0 to get away from button and laser, hoping that despite a signal to insanity/dizzy that I have flagged enough neutrals to stop a long run by red. And, that diizy and Nich could further narrow our choces.

Was not happy with the result of the next play either. I went rectangle 0 to get JM3s team to think square was theirs. They didn't seem to pick up on square knot. No sooner do I pick it when dizzy mentions square knot. So, when dizzy excluded it..it seemed like a wasted turn.

Anyway, at the end I felt really confident about berry and lock, but was worried about spike because nick had flagged early on that golf spikes are a thing..My only hope was that with expensive 0 Nich and PK would drill down the list and come to believe that I had clued away from all the other words with more certainty/stronger links than I had with spike..

This is a tough game . This game seems like it would be better 2v2, where your guesser says little and you expect him/her to keep some kind of log and then they can just fire away when ready.. It becomes an open book at the end.. Just a matter of who has last turn, I guess.

Oh btw, if I went volley 0 at any point does that clue my team away from spike or toward spike? I had considered it but had no idea how it would play out.

If we are using the original order I think dizzy and Nich are next.

That's definitely something I'd do, but wasn't intended here. I probably wouldn't have eliminated laser from yours even if I had thought of viewfinder.

Some of these can be tough but I would consider it as away from spike. Probably...

Yeah, it's a slippery slope with cluing toward/against.

I think the format is more interesting with multiple guessers & some dialogue, but I could see 2v2 being somewhat interesting in a different way.

I’d consider volley away from spike

If you remember earlier on you did rectangle instead of rectangular so I figured at least one of spike/tie was ours

I had put spike for long list of golf terms but not on my short list; same as laser

Golf eliminated so many that I didn’t want to accidentally eliminate one that was ours and then you have to scramble to try to correct (like volley), so that’s why I did the shorter “for sure” list
