MONKEY'S WALRUS

So Chris is well under way so let's do this. You'll have to forgive me if some of the categories look familiar. I only recently started playing again so I don't know what all everyone's done in the past few months.

How to play Walrus

You pick one song for each of the 7 categories i post and send them to me in a PM (with Youtube links or similar)
I will rank the songs. ranking is based on 1) how much I like the song, 2) category fit, 3) uniqueness of the pick (no strict rule about obviousness, but try to not submit songs that we've all heard a hundred times)

Category fit can be very loose. If there's any way it can be interpreted as fitting, you're in.

Categories

1. Bones

Yeah, death. Let's begin on a cheery note. Something about death, funerals, a murder ballad, a song you'd have played at your funeral, a song you'd play as you batter someone to death who really deserves it. Whatever you feel fits.

2. Thugs

Music to mug to. About crime or something you'd commit a crime to. Doesn't have to be gangsta rap btw and you're taking a gamble if you go for it because I like some, don't like others.

3. Harmony

Speaks for itself. Sweet harmony will win the day.

4. Music to ban to

Now I'm a mod I get to wield the banhammer. But everything in life is nicer to a good tune. So give me something that will get me in the mood. Extra consideration if you manage to find something that involves the idea of banning, forbidding or hammering someone.

5. Post-ban blaze

After a hard day's banning, everyone needs to blaze, right? So how about you give me the soundtrack to having a puff? Something to tune in, turn on and drop off to sleep.

6. It is night

Evoke that time when werewolves prowl. A song about night or with a strong night-time feel. I don't want to feel sunshine. I want to feel the shadows drawing in.

7. And finally...

In my last walrus the last category was the best. I got you to submit the song you felt I should love, so let's do that again. Surprisingly enough, that was not Polish drone but don't let that put you off. Stun me with something I never even knew I liked. I'll score particularly highly anything in a genre I'm not familiar with but you'll still win if you hit on something great in a genre I love.

I hope that's all doable. Don't stress too much over category fits. If I like the song, I'll pretend it fits regardless.

My taste

I have very broad tastes so nothing is out of the question and the scoring is likely to look kinda random to the untrained eye.

I'm not a fan of classic rock and Queen will score nul points regardless how good you think it is. Metal is a gamble but if it's towards the math rock end you have chances. Country rock > country.

I like postpunk a lot, old skool punk but not the powerpop by bands like Green Day that tries to pass itself off as punk, indie (but if your band wears beards you might be disappointed), pop if it's catchy and probably more girly than boy band iykwim, techno/IDM/house (dubstep if it's UK style but you're gambling if you try heavily compressed Skrillex-style noise), disco, funk, blues, basically any black music of the '60s and '70s, some hip hop.

So basically anything. Last time I ran a walrus, soma won with a fairly eclectic group of songs, pipping Nick, who tried some interesting but not actually good Polish drone for his last song. So don't let evil triumph. Get in this and stop Nick once again!

Entering Frank Turner or U2 would just be insanity. Don't go there if you don't like UK in Eurovision level fail.

Deadline will probably be a few days after Chris finishes up.

And I am gonna go with the be true to thyself rationale for my selections. I am not even going to guess what you would like but just go with what music I would have in such circumstances!

Lines and dots won, soma didn't even podium.

I have some great Greek drone that I could see it fitting several different categories. Beware.

oh ****, I thought soma won. I remember he had some songs I really liked.

Drone could be a winner! I do love some of it. Kinda risky though
