I've been recently PMd by fnord about broken links which means that he's active on this project

I have faith that this will be completed but I'm also confident that UD Walrus v4 will be completed first

I do need a B3 entry from you xander since I don't have a link that works (If you don't remember what it was just pick a different song)

I have listened to all the B3 entries at least once and have initial impressions written. A lot of placements I am going to need to untangle, lot of songs bunched up in the middle.

Seems like a good time for a shameless Walrus plug.

It's a pick your own single category Walrus where everyone submits songs for all other categories, & only judges their one category, that's part of the larger Pogcathlon, but you don't need to participate in the rest of the events to play.

Thank you for your patience, it's been an extremely busy, and for me (who doesn't usually stress) and pretty damn stressful year.

Anyway, doing the final ordering of R6 now for a euro friendly reveal starting shortly (as long as it takes me to listen to 10 more songs one last time)

I am so sorry that after such a long wait you have to break the ice with the number 11 song, with 1 base point....

Spoiler:

Marlon Breeze - Geminis
Hip Hop / South American (+1)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31koqQ_KgVE

First Impression: I hear this general style a ton from my daughters phone (that sort of higher pitch melody / simple drum line behind meh vocals and poor lyrics, which I am assuming here). So yeah, pretty bleh first take.

Total Score: 2

Spoiler:

Mobile Suit Gundam - Opening
60-79 (+1), Non Eng (+1)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGDTdcgIIP8

First impression: Not really crazy about this. I don't think the music stands out and I don't think the semi-operetic vocal stylings work. Now if this were a song from Lupin III, you'd probably get some points due to how much I love Lupin III, but this doesn't have any nostalgia context for me.

From here on out, starting with this song, I'd put the songs in the good column. Some might be surprised this song is finishing where it did...

Spoiler:
UD
Ella - Anything Goes
Fem Voc / NA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6X0PqIWfzQ

So I love Ella Fitzgerald and I love Cole Porter, and this is fine, but it is probably not in my five renditions of this particular song. The orchestration is very good, and Ella is of course Ella, but this song plays better at a more energetic pace with more energetic vocals. It's weird that such a good song isn't finishing higher, but it is hurt by the fact that there are so many better Ella songs and covers of this; hell I would not be surprised if Ella has a better cover of this song. Great production value though, and if I knew nothing outside of the songs submitted in this round maybe I'd have rated it higher.

True story, I tried to turn my daughter onto the humpty dance a couple weeks ago. I figured mayyybe she'd like it because it was somewhat inappropriate. Don't think she did. I have successfully taught both my daughters the correct answer to: Can I kick it? So I feel like I've accomplished something.

Hop Along - Not Abel
Fem Voc / NA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drOJXFTUhP4

First impression: it's ok I guess, tbh I kind of got side tracked with something the first listen and didn't notice it much, but enough to know it was probably a middle of the pack song to me. Weird, when I relistened I didn't realize I didn't write up anything of note for this. Um, idk, it's decent, nothing really stands out to me as either good or bad.

Diablo Swing Orchestra - D'Angelo
Fem Voc / Not Eng (+1)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlTIOIaLd4c

First impression: weird; something I wouldn't be entirely surprised to hear on a Sergio Leone movie soundtrack. (i.e. reminds me of some of Enio Moricone's work). Hard to find a spot for this. I like it, but it is very hard to rate comparatively.

First impression: So this is better than at least the last entry off of this play list, don't really remember the earlier ones so it might be the best so far. Not bad at all. This is a really tight big band sound.

Bright Eyes - At the Bottom of Everything
Folk (+1) / Male Vocals
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXDAhnbYobE

First Impression: I could do without the intro, which yeah, I know sets it up narratively, but I wish it could just get to the song which I like. Vocals remind me vaguely of the Dead Milkmen. Yeah, the song part is pretty damn good.

iFLY - Kozimnin Qarasy
Asian (+2) / 2000+
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0v7Y-2PJT98

First impression: This is a really nice, chill song. Final listen through, pretty good. Maybe the vocals should have been mixed a little lower? Found the original on spotify, live version is paced better from a 20 second skim, but I'll check them out more in the future.
Note: on spotify I found the song by M'Dee, which was an acoustic version of this song (which makes sense given the title Piano Unplugged, I think). I think its also the same group (i.e. this isn't a cover), but Kazakh, Cyrillic, etc....

Algiers - The Underside of Power
Soul / 2000+
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGZXzmM1smM

First Impressions: This is pretty damn cool! THe video is also really well done. Good production values all around. This is just so well produced. I love that this hard hitting soul? sound is sort of coming into style. I have a hard time even classifying the genre here. I recommended this to a friend one day and couldn't really tell him what type of music it was. He agreed he didn't really have a genre for it but he liked it.
