you can easily cap the chain length by putting categories that contradict each other in there.

No one is going to be able to get to 8 categories if they've got to go through 2 different date ranges or something similar.

Reveal soon, listening through all the songs again. Might take a while to reveal because there is a big pile up on the podium side of the middle.

Soon as in I will be starting in probably 15 min, worst is clear, best is clear, there are a couple of packs of songs close together so I'll probably have to do some more listening to get the order as I go.

A swing and a miss! This grates a bit musically and vocally and really doesn't offer a whole lot. There are bits where it almost starts to sound like a song that has potential, but then it goes right back to being irritating.

This really doesn't work for me. Vocals make this unlistenable to me. I mean this would probably be several spaces higher if they just removed the vocal track and released it as an instrumental (though then I guess it wouldn't have fit the the matrix). This song feels like one that was taking a chance with some bonus points in case it missed, but there were no bonus points

Faith No More - Mother****er

Faith No More got back together, who knew? Kind of meh, kind of OK. I'm kind of on the fence on this one. I mean I wouldn't call it better than OK, but parts I think "yeah this is OK" and parts I think "ehh, maybe not"

This particular 60's style I generally find meh. There are definitely songs from this era I love, but an awful lot are just there.

Reasonably polished, reasonably pleasant, lacks something to distinguish it.

Certainly a song I know. Somehow I never considered Pat Benatar metal, but it's certainly there. What this has over some of the other older songs is that it has a pulse and attitude. notbad.jpeg.

2-6 are all close and all very different songs.

This is very different sort of song. First, holy crap John Denver singing in Chinese. This is very pleasant musically and vocally really strong. This reminds me of something I can't really put my finger on, I think some soundtrack or another.

fisrst 25ish sec, meh, after that much better. Second time listening to it, same impression, 'god this sucks, ok now it doesn't suck'. I wouldn't call it great, but it is good. I like the rhythm line they are taking and the arrangement.

Next two songs both really grew on me in repeat listens.

Father John Misty - "Total Entertainment Forever"

So I could see how someone might say my Distant Colours description could be dropped in here, but this is just better and has something that distinguishes it. I can't necessarily say what it is but it is there. So, not great, but good. I don't think I have heard this song before, but this artist is a semi favororite right now on the radio station I listen to, but I don't really recall any of their songs. Like this one, not the type to get stuck in my head I guess. This song is really starting to grow on me.

This one gets a first impression - very cool! Yeah, this is going to be tough to beat. On second listen this is just great from beginning to end. And they are on spotify, so happy. So to try to describe what I like about this, it is clean, I like the rythm, I like the melody, I like arrangement, I like the pacing and when it shifts gears it is to something that fits and is good. This is just a fantastic jazz trio.
