This song really didn't click with me, it felt like an experiment that didn't work.

Spoiler:

Crimson Fox
A1 - 60-79 (+1) / Jazz(+1)
YES - Then
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W10qiXqlvo8

Definitely has some freeform jazz influence, but Yes just doesn't pull if off so well in this song.

An older song that seems a bit cliche

Spoiler:

Xander
A1 Male Vocals - 1960 - 1979 (+1)
Roger Glover & Guests - Love Is All
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW9OYsMn4ds

A bit meh. I mean I certainly have nothing against the style of music it just doesn't excite me or annoy me, it's just sort of there.

I can't think of a teaser for this one

Spoiler:
UD
A1 - Male Lead / 1980-1999
Toto Cutugno - L'Italiano
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syc78JzHGTs

This is pleasant enough, but it just doesn't have anything that stands out to me or makes me want to listen to it more.

good work fnord - this looks quite complicated to run too. I've just sent a PM - which adds a category X (and makes the switch I suggested in the sign up thread for C3) - and assembles my 10 tracks in a table.

Potential cross post curse....

Nope, he didn't post as I was composing this

The Seatbelts - Space Lion
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKnVaDwUg5s

Pulling out a song from an amazing soundtrack. This is a good song but this particular one is way better suited to go with visuals. As opposed to say Tank, that is great in a soundtrack but can stand on it's own better.

I get the feeling there was a definite bonus point hunt on here...

Spoiler:

JM3
A1 - African Artist (+2) Non English Vocals (+1)
Oliver Mtukudzi - Tozeza Baba
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bByuF4e4v0

This is a pretty decent song. I almost looked up and the translated lyrics because of the video. I feel like it is a bit too long. This song is the first of the tier 2 plateau in my ratings.

A good song with some minor flaws

A1 - Don't Call It A Comeback (+2) / 2000 or later
The Avalanches, Because I'm Me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uixyaeGDbSU

This was submitted in the 2016 walrus. I think it has grown on me a bit since then, but I still have the same complaint about the child (or child like) singing bits. The music is good and I really like the rapping style. Also the kid singing bit is not as bad when there is more going on in the song than when it's the sole focus.

This song grew on me the more I listened to it

Spoiler:

Nick
A1 - European American / Folk (+1)
Rhiannon Giddens - At The Purchaser's Option
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vy9xTS0QxM

Here was my first impression:
The vocals are really strong, the arrangement is good, but the song seems less than the sum of its parts. I think the two parts somehow don't work together for me.

The more I listened the more I decided that the whole thing worked together better than I originally thought. Also this is a pretty heavy song thematically.

Score: 8

This is a really pleasant song

Spoiler:

Tchaz
A1 pre 1960 (+2) Africa (+2)
Antoine Wendo Kolosoy - Marie Louise
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6yOvOzdNAU

I really love the music in this one. I agree it is hard to believe this was recorded in 1948. The vocals aren't

bad but I think this would be even stronger as an intrumental, the music is so clean and pleasant.

Score: 12

3rd (10 base points)

This entry gets a I am very much looking forward to exploring more of this artists work once the walrus is over.

Spoiler:

Walrein
A1 Asian (+2) - female lead vocals
tricot - Ochansensu-su

First off, I really love this bands attitude/energy/style/etc.
I like all the styles of music they are fusing together here, but I am not sure it is the best mix in this song. I listened to one of song of theirs that seemed a bit more... cohesive? on first pass. That being said I enjoyed this the first time I listened to it and it has grown on me more since.

This looks promising ... from the ~3sec clips my today's internet access allows. To this I shall return.

2nd (12 base points)

Last 2 are so distinctly different I can't put an ambiguous comment here

Spoiler:

A1 Metal/Inst (+1) - pre 1960 (+2)
Santo & Johnny "Sleep Walk"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rwfqsjimRM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBRCvVpknvg - Cleaner recording without the intro

OK, this is a really nice. It sounds very familiar, I wonder if that is because it is used a lot in soundtracks or was just really influential (or both). I love the whatever that lead instrument is and the twangy thing they got going on. (I used to know how to describe that better, but I don't recall right now)

Score: 15

I like the energy here and the mix of EDM and hard core. This has such an infectious beat and so much energy. Really cool sound!

I'd say that not giving a **** about bonuses was a mistake, but I literally did not have a choice here.

why?

will all be revealed through some theme in your submissions - I hope, if so, it will be about matrices ?
04-15-2018 , 05:13 PM
I didn't care about bonuses but I did purposefully put my strongest song in a position other than A1 so that it wouldn't be up against the strongest songs of others.

Also joint last is better than I was expecting
