Making your Fortune Mini Draft - Signup and Interest Making your Fortune Mini Draft - Signup and Interest

The basic premise is that you go back in time 20 years. You have 6 lots of $1000 to use to make your fortune.

2x $1000 must be wagered
2x $1000 must be used to buy shares in a company
2x $1000 can be used in any other way

Some ground rules:

1). There is no causality/ripple effect. If you pick A then B & C don't change even if it seems logical that they would. All that changes is you make x amount of money and you can use it to have a nicer life. No ripples beyond your outdoor heated pool...

2). You can't buy lottery tickets or [Insert other draft breaking activity here]. Let's keep things interesting and creative.

3). If 20 years ago you were too young to gamble then let's imagine that some homeless guy called Pete will wager/invest for you an all he ever wants from you is a little spare change and a bottle of whiskey.

4). You don't have to use all your money in 1997. You can wait and invest it in 2017 if you want, but you obviously won't reap the rewards until then.

5). When you invest/buy/gamble you should give a few details about when you would do it and how much money it will make you and if necessary how it makes you money.

6). Thoughts on research/no research? I was thinking that it should be no research for the wagering, but research allowed for the rest of the picks.

7). You can pick from any category in any order.

8). There's only 6 picks which should make this a quick and enjoyable draft that doesn't run out of steam around pick #8

In, looks like a very cool concept.

I assume wagers need to be something actually wagerable. ie. In 1997 I can't wager that [redacted] will [redacted] in 2012 because it's unlikely that such a wager would've been possible to make in 1997.

I will in.

You have to be able to find someone to take the bet and actually pay you out.

Even if something is a one in a million shot, I doubt you'd find someone you will give you those odds for $1000 if it's totally random and off the wall. Those that would take the bet and give you those odds are unlikely to pay you imo.

I'd snap bet $10 at 10,000 to 1 for the Mellencamp Oscar. I assume the man still writes music now and then. I wonder what odds I could have gotten on Eminem in 2000?

I think this might be funner with no research, or at least honor system for not researching until you've committed to a pick.

I'd be in to make it run, but without a ton of ideas of where I'd be going with it.

There are 4 of us in

I think that 6 in and it can run

2 more heroes...

I'm the hero you'll get.
But not the hero you deserve.

start on Monday good with everyone I hope. Might throw the game thread up earlier but no one is on the clock until Monday

So I like the idea, but I'm not sure how you do this with research, or without research. With research this almost seems too easy if you are able to specify dates you buy X stock, and sell X stock. But with no research, how do you control do you specify dates? Or just go from IPO to current price?
09-16-2017 , 03:18 AM
I think that research is necessary for the stocks but the key to drafting well is to not have to wait a bunch of time for money.

If you pick 6 investments that don't pay off until 2017 then you're in the poor house until then.

I'm certainly going to aim to be wealthy from the start and super wealthy by the end.

Also we have DWetzel's idea which I like: Commit to a stock before research and then figure out the best dates. Perhaps you don't pick optimally this way.

Next question. I invest in stock x for the first 10 years. Am I only allowed to invest 1000 in stock y for the next 10.
09-16-2017 , 04:53 AM
you have 2 lots of $1000 to invest in stock

parlays will not be part of the draft but if stuff hasn't been drafted you can do a post draft write up to explain what you would do with your fortune

Oh, so it's not just who can have the most wealth in 2017, but who can have a life of wealth starting as close to 1997 as possible and grow from there?

you draft how you wanna draft, but it's a one way time machine
