slight nuance I think. I made my pick without research. My pick was filling out a perfect bracket in 2014.

Then after making the pic you can research the finer details. I assume DWetz' pick for the Kentucky Derby was the same.

To me, the point of 'no research' means you need to come up with ideas on to wager on/invest in on your own. You can't google 'best return on investment since 1990' and then select some mid-cap company you've actually never heard of that happened to 10,000x.

I know Buffett offered a billion for a perfect bracket, so that's what I chose. DWetz assumedly knew the 2005 Derby was won by a complete longshot so that's what he chose.

I was thinking boy if I could go back in time and be the person to program X I could make tons of money. But in reality most of those things would be beyond me. Except I've got one thing I think I could go back in time and program.

Flappy Bird

100$ a year to sign up for Apple's development program. I think I could handle learning how to program a game that has only one input and randomly generated tubes. Apparently the game was making $50,000 a day before it was pulled from the stores, which comes to 18 million a year, assuming I can't find a buyer for it.

I trust that DWetzel has been PMd?

I'll PM him to make sure, but I think it's safe to say that True North can also pick now...

sometimes draft games turn out to be duds. if this one does, i still like it, and i'll keep playing. i think it's a great game, and i've had fun thinking about it.

I'll use up my other gambling pick now, since I think my next two picks are pretty safe and I'm realizing I don't have a clue what to do about the other two...

August 1999: $1000 on the St. Louis Rams to win Super Bowl XXXIV at 300-1

Those odds are engraved in my memory, thanks to Chad Millman's terrific book The Odds on Alan Boston and the 1999-2000 college basketball season. There's a good section on how much the Vegas books were sweating the outcome of the Super Bowl thanks to all the action on the Rams plus the futures bets they still owed if the Rams won. This will net me a tidy $300,000 not long after my trip begins.

Where does the $1000 limit come In? If it's at the top then you're going to make $999.

If it's at the bottom that seems weird...

I'll buy in January 1998 at .033 per share (adjusted for splits and dividends). I'll sell last night, at its current value of $56.26 per share, that's a 1704x increase in stock price, or just over $1.7 million (give or take).

Not amazing, but it'll do.

Confused on the Leicester bet as bookmakers cap winnings, depending on the site, at $1M. Who would have taken the bet?

seems safe to assume one could have spread $1000 around at a few sites if necessary.

Also, I presume this is supposed to be a fun draft and nitting about stuff like this is kinda ruining it tbh

Fair and good to know ahead of my own betting picks. Not trying to nit it up, just clarify rules before I follow suit.

I'll take the Auburn Tigers to win in 2012 for (depending on the source) 1000:1 or 500:1.

We'll call it the middle and say 750:1 for $750,000.

Sorry didn't get a PM
I'll take Cheltenham Festival 2012 backing Nicky Henderson's five star horses in the 2012 festival placing the bet 3 months before alongside Henderson's stable lad.

Selections were: Sprinter Sacre, Simonsig, Bob's Worth, Finian's Rainbow and Riverside Theatre.

Whilst The Stable Lad was conservative and staked 50 winning a million, I was braver and through down a cheeky 1k

That means I walked away with a lovely 20MILLION

Worked in a bookies for a few years during college.

Not all bookies/bets have a cap, but they will need to approve something with a potentially massive payout with the man upstairs.

Something as ridiculous as $1000 on Leicester to win the league will be happily accepted by somebody on review, and they have the whole season to hedge with other bookies.

My two picks are going to be both sports bets

I don't know much about sports but I know a couple of things.

I'm going to bet that the Holyfield v Tyson fight will end in Tyson being disqualified. Not sure of the odds but I'm pretty sure this was 1997 and will get me a bit of early money

I'm then going to bet that Greece will win Euro2004. They were outsiders and I should be able to get some decent odds.

Will check this stuff out and report back to you...

Had a quick google and found that Greece were 150-1 to win and so I've got $150,000 in 2004. Nice bit of money to tide me over until my big payday comes.

Can't find much on disqualification odds. Can't find anything for that fight and the only one I've been able to find is the McGregor/Mayweather fight odds.

McGreggor to win with a DQ was 50-1 and Mayweather to win with a DQ was 10-1

Unless someone shows me otherwise I'm going to assume that I could get at least 20-1 on Tyson being DQd and pocket $20,000 in June of 1997

Not the big bucks, but I'll be 13 then and $20,000 will go a long way. Would never have to want anything as a kid...

any bookmaker would have given you 20 to 1 on a dq. you might not have been able to get 50 to 1. bookmakers give real bad odds for those kinds of bets. and tyson had a terrible reputation. but yeah, 20 to 1 at least.

i'd say you could specify ear biting and get 50 to 1.
