Meh. Basically we've been talking alot over Myspace (she doesn't have AIM which is like...impossibly to conceive), and she said she'll be free Saturday night so I could should give her a call if I want to do something. I don't see it as being a backup plan.

If I call her before Saturday, I'll feel obligated to actually talk on the phone to her. I completely freeze up trying to talk to make conversation on the phone...especially with people I don't know. If I call Saturday, we can make plans and I'll meet her face to face, something I'm much more comfortable with.

A suggestion for you to consider - call her tonight. Say something along the lines of "I'm heading out with some friends in a couple minutes, but I wanted to set something up for tomorrow night. Let's do X"

That way, you get her a day in advance, but you don't have to make conversation.

I'm not an expert here, but I don't think that setting up a first date to do drugs is the way to go.

X may be a good choice for Kyro on a first date.

Try writing down what you want to say. Like:

"Hi, it's Kyro. I'm calling about Saturday night, would you like to go to XXX for dinner then YYY for drinks?" (Be specific if you cannot improvise well on the phone).

Then you can beg off. You don't have to have a conversation on the phone. You can say either something like "I am in the middle of something but I didn't want to leave you hanging" or "I am on my way out the door" or "I really suck at talking on the phone, I just freeze up, but I don't do that when talking in person."

If you call her on Saturday she may very well have made other plans (hell, she may have by now).

When I call and ask for a date, I never keep talking on the phone.

I also dislike talking on the phone to people I don't know particularly well, and I wouldn't do the above. You'll end up sounding unnatural if you try to read a prepared speech. Just figure out more or less what you want to say and call her.

Depending on the exact tone of what was said, this may be true. I think calling her either today or tomorrow is fine. Either way.
