Mish-Mash is a version of the normal game that still has the same basic rules, but in addition has a variety of roles added in with some action/power they can perform during the day or night phase. There might also be other mechanics like events that happen at a specified time of the day where something or other will happen.

are the hours spent playing passive or active?

i'm at my laptop several hours per day and could check in periodically but will also have large chunks where i'd be afk and/or unable to contribute actively ie just read and respond when needed - wouldn't be able to do much chat/strategize if that's part of it

This seems like enough time to me to dedicate. The absolute minimum requirement is making 10 posts a day. So as long as you can manage that feel free to sign up if you want.
