"Welcome to Summoner's Rift!"

Deep in the heart of the jungle, tucked away in a nondescript corner and shielded on three sides by a nearly insurmountable wall, sat a magical frog. It was not a happy frog, but such was the personality of a creature who existed only to be killed and then revived two minutes later. Its life was always the same: spawn, eat, drink, be eaten. Over and over again, life after life, in this hellscape of an arena known to his Satanic gods as Summoner's Rift. It was a witness to everything that occurred on this ancient battlefield, but for reasons unknown, seemed resigned to its fate; it never left its resting place other than to occasionally drink from the nearby river.

Something was changing in the air, however - and the frog, known to himself as the Gromp, was growing uneasy. It could tell something was different about this iteration of the game its malevolent creators had dreamed up. They had taken it one step further, and literally created Gromp's world in text form. For the first time, he was now a witness to the summoners changing the rules and using his home as a place where victory would be determined not by blade skill or reaction time, but by critical reasoning and logic.

The frog sighed in the throaty voice that only frogs had, wondering what was next.

Welcome to our League of Legends werewolf game! We are excited to have you. We've combined some of our favorite parts of League of Legends gameplay with a werewolf mish-mash and are hoping that you have a blast.

If this is your first game of werewolf on POG, please take a few minutes to read and familiarize yourself with the rules in the forum sticky. Please also review the rules below and let us know if you have any questions or concerns with anything. Our goal is to make this a fun game for all.

1) Any overt sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or any other hate speech will not be tolerated and will result in removal from the game (either modkill or forced sub). When it doubt, don't say it.

2) No jokes about suicide, rape, or anything like that. Once again, when in doubt, don't say it. Many people have either experienced this kind of trauma or are close with someone who has. We want to respect that.

3) Keep things civil. I won't modkill for the occasional name calling or heated exchange. But if you do it repeatedly or say something particularly egregious you will be removed from the game. I will endeavor to give PM warnings before it comes to this but I am not going to babysit the thread so don't assume you will get one before a modkill. Remember we are all confused, paranoid, and make mistakes. And some people are actively trying to LIE to you to win the game. THAT IS PART OF THE GAME. Everyone mistrusts everyone and some people are trying to deceive you. Don't take that personally. Also don't berate people for being wrong or making mistakes. That is also part of the game. Just because something is obvious to you does not mean it is obvious to other people. Part of your job is to explain things to other people and help them understand without being a jerk.

4) No using out-of-game stuff to make promises, bets, wagers, assurances, etc. Don't say "I will never play werewolf again if I am a wolf" or "I am going to retire if so-and-so isn't a villager". Yes some stuff are obvious jokes but others are not and things can get weird, unfriendly, and uncomfortable very fast with stuff like this. Use what is happening in the game and restrict your discussions to what is happening in the game.

Each player in the game is a champion from the video game League of Legends. As such, each player has a certain amount of health and mana that will fluctuate throughout the game. You will lose health when you take damage. If you are reduced to zero health or less, you die. Mana can be spent to use abilities (night/day actions). Different champions have different maximum health and maximum mana. Your PM will make it clear what your maximum health, maximum mana, and current mana are (all players current health starts at their maximum health). Past this point, you will never be notified what your current health is (though you may be able to figure out your current health mechanically).

Champions are divided into three types: carries, supports, and tanks. Typically, carries and supports each start the game with 4 maximum health, while tanks have 8 maximum health. Generally maximum health stays the same, but in rare instances maximum health may be changed by abilities or items.

Carries generally are champions with very powerful abilities. The goal of any good team in League of Legends is to protect your carries so that they can stay alive and use their powerful abilities. Tanks do this by attempting to absorb damage from the enemy team while Supports do this by buffing caries with abilities. Supports and Tanks also both try to disrupt the enemy team with crowd control (more on that later).

As a villager, keep this in mind when considering advertising your role or champion type. While each team is trying to keep the carries on their team alive, the opposing team is trying to kill the opposing carries. Thus, by making your champion type public, the opposing may be able to more accurately plan their night actions. Conversely, if you are a Tank and can trick the opposing team into targeting you (instead of a carry) that may benefit your team.

Each champion has some combination of abilities and passives. Passives happen “passively” which means they do not cost mana and cannot be role blocked (though keep in mind, just because it is a “passive” it will sometimes require the player to do something as part of the passive).

Each ability has a mana cost associated with it. When you use that ability, you will lose that much mana. If you do not have enough mana then you may not use that ability.

An action period happens each day and each night (except day 1). During each action period players can choose to either use an ability or auto-attack. Actions during the action period that occurs each night are due 1 hour before start of day and are resolved at start of day. Actions during the action period that occurs each day are due 1 hour before end of day and are resolved at EOD.

All players will automatically gain 1 mana during each action period, except day 1.

To summarize, during each action period players may choose to either use one of their abilities or to auto-attack. An auto-attack is a general action: choose another target player and deal 1 damage to them.

Many abilities and effects in the game use a concept called “crowd control”. A player that is “crowd controlled” may not use any actions during an action period in which they are crowd controlled.

Actions will be resolved in the following order during each action period:

Night actions
Any crowd control effects (damage effects that occur as part of abilities that cause crowd control do their damage during step 4)
Track/watch/peek, or other unaccounted for effects and abilities
Any shield abilities or effects
Any damaging abilities or effects (including auto-attacking)
The wolf night kill
Any healing effects and abilities
Any abilities or effects that increase mana, including default passive mana gain

Day actions
The lunch
Any crowd control effects (damage effects that occur as part of abilities that cause crowd control do their damage during step 4)
Any track/watch/peek abilities or effects
Any damaging abilities or effects (including auto-attacking)
Any healing effects and abilities
Any abilities or effects that increase mana, including default passive mana gain

The wolf night kill and the lunch both are considered to reduce any champions’ health to zero (regardless of any shields they may have). NOTE: the night kill and lunch are not considered to do “damage”. Therefore abilities or effects that reduce or prevent damage have no effect. The wolf night kill must be assigned to a wolf and carried. Thus it can be watched and/or tracked.

Non-submitted actions or abilities (including the wolf night kill) will not be randed and instead will just not be processed.

Items and item building are a key component of League of Legends. In our werewolf game, there are two types of items: item components, and completed items. Each item component provides no value on its own, but when combined with another item component, creates a full item which provides value to its holder.

There are three item components in the game: Sword, Tear, and Belt. Below is a chart which explains the resulting completed item for each item combination:

Sword + Sword = Infinity Edge
Sword + Tear = Spear of Sojin
Sword + Belt = Titanic Hydra
Tear + Belt = Redemption
Tear + Tear = Archangel's Staff
Belt + Belt = Warmog's Armor

The combined items, and their value, are as follows:

Infinity Edge - Your autoattacks deal an additional 1 damage.

Spear of Sojin - You can autoattack in addition to using an ability each night.

Titanic Hydra - You heal for half the damage you deal (including abilities), rounded up.

Archangel’s Staff - Upon combining, you go to full mana. Additionally, passively gain an additional 1 mana each night.

Redemption - When you target a player with a spell, you can choose to either heal the target for 3 or deal 1 damage to the target.

Warmog’s Armor - Increase your max (as well as current) health by 2. Each night you passively gain 1 current health.

----

There are two known ways to earn items, or item components, in this game (there may be other ways players can receive items):

1. Each player must submit, via PM, a request for an item component before EOD D1. This component will be given to them overnight

2. Minigame prizes will include a choice of item component. These choices will not be made public.

At any time, you may combine any item components you have to make full items. Their effect takes place immediately. Do this by notifying the mod which components you wish to combine. This is not considered an action (it can’t be roleblocked and you may do it in addition to your normal actions). Once item components are combined they cannot be separated. You may also choose to hold onto multiple component items without combining them. There is no limit to the number of component items or full items you can carry. Items cannot be passed, sold, or destroyed.

Each day at 1pm EST, the mini-game will be open for entrance until 1:15pm. Any player may attempt to enter the game by simply bolding “in” in the thread AFTER the event has been announced by the moderator.

A total of 10 players will be selected, AT RANDOM, from among those who have entered into the event. Two teams of 5 will be randomly created from among the 10 chosen at random to participate in the mini-game. The game will be carried out in a separate “mini-game” thread.

Rules of the game:

The game is carried out in a series of “rounds”. The object of the game is for your team to kill the opposing team’s nexus before they kill yours.

Each round, there will be a 5 minute discussion period in the thread. Anyone from any team is allowed to post and say whatever they want. At the end of 5 minutes each player must privately PM their choice of action to the mod. These actions will then be publicly announced by the mod and the outcome of the round resolved.

Each team must work together to win teamfights and secure objectives. The actions that players must choose is which objective to go for. This is to simulate actual league of legends, where strategic decisions must be made by the team on how to prioritize objectives to eventually take the other team’s nexus.

The objectives that exist in the game are:

-Each team has a nexus
-Each team has three towers in succession protecting the nexus
-The Dragon
-The Baron

In order to attack the nexus, teams must first destroy the other teams 3 towers, one by one.

If you kill the Baron it will provide you a powerful buff for the next round.

If you kill a Dragon, it will provide a small, permanent buff that lasts for the rest of the mini-game. You can kill the dragon multiple times and stack these buffs.

If either the Dragon or Baron is killed, it will respawn two rounds (including the one in which it is killed) later.

To secure an objective (i.e. destroy an enemy tower, kill dragon, or kill baron), you must win a team fight against whatever enemy champions show up at that objective first.

So to summarize, each round, every member of the team must privately notify me which objective they will go for. Team fights will occur and be resolved at any objective where champions from either team show up. Once a team has destroyed 3 towers (by winning team fights at them) they may attack the nexus. Once they win a team fight at the nexus they win the game. Note that team fights can occur at multiple

Team fights are resolved the following way:

At each objective, a random number is generated by each champion between 0 and 1. All numbers generated are added together for each side to produce their team fight “power”. If one side produces a number >=1 more than the other side, they are deemed to have “won” the fight and secure that objective. NOTE: If no one shows up from one team, it is still possible to not win a team fight if your combined power is less than 1.

Example:

Champion A, B and C from team 1 go to “tower”
Champion X and Y from team 2 go to “tower”

The following random numbers are generated for each champion:
A - 0.9
B - 0.75
C - 0.4
X - 0.2
Y - 0.5

Thus the teamfight “power” for each team is:
Team 1: 0.9 + 0.75 + 0.4 = 2.05
Team 2: 0.2 + 0.5 = 0.7

Team 1 generated a power 1.35 greater than Team 2, therefore they win the team fight at the “tower” objective. Thus, one of team 2’s towers is destroyed.

Dragon increases the random number generated by all champions on a team by 10% for the rest of the game. As a reminder teams can kill dragon as many times as they want and stack this buff.

Baron increases the random number generated by all champions on a team by 25% for the next round only.

The winning team of the mini-game all get to select one item component as a reward. There may be additional rewards announced (and possible penalties for the losing team) after a winning team is determined each day.

A Note About Claiming

There are no overt rules against claiming. You may claim (or lie) about your role, champion type, or champion name at any time. And there may be strategic benefit to doing so at certain points.

However, keep in mind that while there may be benefit to giving your role to other villagers, willingly giving information to the wolves always has drawbacks. If the wolves know your abilities or role, they many more accurately choose their night actions. The game is balanced assuming villagers will not unnecessarily reveal their roles to the wolves. If you lazily claim because you think its fun and then end up losing do not complain about balance. Werewolf is a game of hidden information. Information is currency and once previously hidden information is made public you lose that currency.

Additionally, there are circumstantially powerful anti-claim mechanics that the wolves have access to. So be careful making your role public. Those mechanics may be going on in the background without them being obvious.

Also not that there is no rhyme or reason to why any champion has a certain alignment. So don't worry about reading into that.

You've got hp/mana. You lose your HP you die. Mana let's you do ****.
You can get items in pieces, you pick which pieces. Tell the mod what you want. Items do stuff.
There will be a random.org event at 1pm server time.
There's an order that things process but I don't think it matters since we can't affect it.

That might be most of it?
