well that was a tale of two halves

glad you liked WHY, gad, the whole album that's off (Alopecia) is great, check it out

although massive lolgad for not liking Jeff Rosenstock, WORRY is probably in my top five albums of the last decade, pretty sure I first got into him after someone entered Nausea to one of my walruses, it's a great song.

Since nobody is revealing today, I'll do mine.
Mine is different in that I wasn't necessarily looking for what I liked (who cares!) but what I might find interesting.
I'm an old timer who once had about 5000 LPs and 3000 CDs but I've been kind of left behind of late. I mostly buy my music now from eMusic and they only have the most obscure of the obscure (plus a ton of public domain titles).
I was kind of disappointed with the music I was given as it was all well known songs and/or songs from well known artists.
Therefore, I kind of had to use "what I like" to separate many of these.

After 5 listens I was getting nothing from this. I watched the original and could see why. Nothing there either.

Another one that I was getting nothing from after 5 listens. I watched the original and did enjoy it a bit more due to the vocals but it would never be my cup-of-tea.

I really did wonder what people saw in this song. Extremely popular in its day. The two versions are from people from different backgrounds but seem to get along well.
The song is not improved any by the newer version.

Finally, something that I can write something nice about. Due to the order that I was given these songs, this came on like a breath of fresh air.
That because it followed 3 very wimpy tunes!
However, on repeated listening it didn't improve much but I assume this is a fine Rush soundalike (based on listening to the original).

I thought this one was from the tribute concert but it turns out to be from the Hall Of Fame concert.
A wonderful song and a wonderful rendition but hardly a surprise since it's from an original by a very popular band (and these performers are no slouches either).
I had to check whether I was allowed to include the video in my rating. The instructions were just to listen. Only fair since some of the others had no video.
However, I would recommend that you watch this video if you have not done so before.
There is a rather unassuming fellow at the far end of the stage who takes the 2nd solo and whose showmanship (and guitar playing) are second to none.

A fine jinx. Off by one post. This one is mine. Bottom half of the standings but at least the judge said nice things.

This one has the same problem as #6: a song from a very popular artist so not much of a surprise.
I really enjoyed this version and since this performer has a lower profile than those who did #6, I gave her the edge.

A bit of a surprise here as this is a song I did not know from a band (the original band) that I don't really like.
But it's excellent! Was probably the one song that got into my head the most.

Covering T***! How uncool can you be!
But I had to check: maybe they were just covering W*****? Nope, this was released years earlier.
This song was a "guilty pleasure" of mine back in the day. I mostly just like rock'n'roll or its different variants but not wimpy radio friendly crap like this!
But I couldn't help myself. I loved this song.
Kudos for having the nerve to record this. Not as musically satisfying as others on the list but having the guts to record this gets them #3.

Well, here's a surprise. A gay version of the ultimate male stereotype vs female stereotype song ever.
I never did understand how this became a Christmas song. Not very Christmasy here as the male says "let's get it on" and the female is forced into the "but really we shouldn't" role.
However, this version is played completely "straight" musically.
In order to get #1 the two vocalists should have switched sides half way through. No male/female stereotypes needed in the gay world!

And I thought covering Toto was uncool! It's SONNY BONO!!
Sonny made a lot of money with his long hair and hippy duds but the truth was revealed later when he retired from show biz and went into politics.
He ran for (and was elected) as a congressman for the Republican Party.
Turns out he was a conservative all along and this hippy stuff was just for show.
Who would dare to cover Sonny in this day and age?
Did she know she was covering Sonny? She has "Nancy Sinatra" as the person she's covering even though the original was by Mrs Sonny Bono herself: Cher.
Sonny's songs were awfully goofy and this one had it's moments too but this version is totally serious.
Interesting to hear a Sonny song sung with so much emoting.
Also, kudos for the whistling.
Now when will someone cover "Pammie's On A Bummer".

Nice, I binked a first!

2 podiums and a nodium in this one.

Violet is my favorite cover artist and she does a new one every Sunday. Usually it’s 90s/00s numetal like Manson, Linkin Park, Evanescence, System of a Down but she does lots of classic rock also.

I considered Personal Jesus and War Pigs but chose wisely it seems. Given you didn’t like Head over Heels, Personal Jesus woulda been pretty low also most likely.
