this is one of the more understated transitions but then again the whole album is an intimate experience so nothing is really going to be too in your face. It's a fantastic album and the two songs are good (esp the second) but I think it suffers some because of the overall quality of the first song in a pretty strong category. the recurring melody between the two tracks is really well done.

Spoiler:
soma84 - "Fantasy" / "Shelter" by The xx (xx)

two people submitted stuff from the same album, who'd have seen that coming? Classic album too. I am a big fan.

Spoiler:
the transition between the two tracks is fairly seamless (even if its only a few seconds of overlap).

Spoiler:
9th - Captain Binkles - "Gold" / "Cold World" by GZA (Liquid Swords)

the sample breaking things up signifies the incoming change in tone between the two songs and is a pretty awesome sample as well.

this transition isn't quite as seamless but it's still killer. I couldn't decide which one of these I liked more
Spoiler:
10th - JMurder3 - "4th Chamber" / "Shadowboxin" by GZA (Liquid Swords)

The dissonance of the first track followed by the beauty of the second makes for a powerful transition. and this album is like perfectly sequenced so you cant really go wrong here

It's not that, but it is a little bit of an indie hallelujah. It was my instant answer though, I think it's probably the best 1-2 on any album I can think of.

This is kind of cheating since its part of a suite of tracks but man this is powerful stuff… great album too.

Spoiler:
tappokone - "Hyperstation" / "Eliminator, Jr." by Sonic Youth (Daydream Nation)

also i'm being facetious about the cheating part.. plus theres a bit of dramatic irony (or idk reveal irony?) going on here where i'm baiting some of the higher finishers here with some red herrings that they are being revealed but arent.

Can't come to think of anything, but reading this doesn't make me more comfortable.

Haha, when I entered this I started off by saying "I could probably put any two tracks from Liquid Swords here and they'd work", nice.

4th Chamber might be my favourite track off the whole album, the sample is great and the instrumental is just bananas. All the verses are great too

And the back & forth between Method Man and GZA on Shadowboxin' is fantastic

the [redacted] carrying over from track to track is really good. The first track fades out for a while but given the somewhat drastic change in tone I would say that it's warranted else it would be too jarring of a switch. Both tracks are way good too

going from the slow to uplifting always makes for a good transition. The first track sets up the second perfectly. Also helps that they're both amazing songs.

Spoiler:
bloobird - "The World at Large" / "Float On" by Modest Mouse (Good News for People Who Love Bad News)

The songs really do complement each other well and they are both amazing but the transition itself isn't really all that special.

holy hell the end of the first track is ominous… especially when the song itself is pretty easy going. Really does a good job of signifying the upcoming change in tone because the second song is a straight banger.

I think you are overselling the overall transition tbh. It doesn't really evoke anything. Like it's pretty seamless but when I hear World At Large my brain doesn't automatically go to Float On. The connection isn't weak but it's not super strong either

wow. the change in tone is pretty awesome and the second track just rocks. it's all really seamless too.

Spoiler:
72off - "Amazing Journey" / "Sparks" by The Who (Tommy)

like I said before The Who are a blind spot for me, I'm going to have to check out more of their stuff. but this is really good

Totally disagree, they're such complementary tracks I really can't imagine them apart. Like World At Large cannot end in any way other than that little drum fill then wham in with the guitar.

Songs off of my favorite album by my favorite band? I'm sure I could dock you for being obvious but it's just too, too good. The whole ****ing medley is but this moment right here is truly one of the highlights. It's the top transition in a masterclass of transitions.

Spoiler:
"Polythene Pam" / "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" by The Beatles (Abbey Road)

The descending bass, Paul abruptly coming in with a somehow catchy lyric that you wouldn’t think of how catchy it is if you havent heard it before. I mean John, who was basically at this point a huge cynic with respect to the everything Beatles (especially Paul), even says "Oh, look out!" I mean the guy knows his stuff and this is legendary stuff.

Spoiler:
oh and two people submitted this i just wanted to add an extra sweat for them in the form of "omg how did i not win?"

legend42 and nick royale each get 20.5 points.
