I DID think of Jamaroquai too...and Marcy Playground...
But once I thought of Verve I never looked back as that one excited me the most. It's such a beautiful song. It was in my psyche. It fit in so well .
I remember the song....and then I remember it popping up everywhere thanks to the greedy rolling stones suing verve and winning 100% of the publishing rites. It was a fricking Nike shoe commercial
But the place I REALLY loved it...it was the bumper music for the PBS show Manor House...which was a reality show of modern people living in an eduardian manor.
I REALLY got into the video in the 00's
It was just periphery journey at first....and as I started paying attention to it, it got deeper and deeper. It brought tears to my eyes almost, very philosophical.
There he is singing about change...singing about life and its tragedy and how he's going to change....buttttttt I"m here in my mode....and in his mode he can't see all the pain he's causing around him....and he never stops...he never learns....
A dstructive wasteland behind him.
He and his buddies...unable to change...unwanting to change...
That message is as haunting today as it was then...
