I really like these rules, but kokiri makes a good point about waiting for people.

Its more fun when there are random terrible moves thrown in and we're sweating what's what.

I would suggest:

Everyone is randed a pawn and a piece
You must submit a single move, unless no legal moves are available
You are allowed to pass once per X moves - You have legal moves but choose to not use them.

That will add some strat besides making your best move. When do I use my pass?

X=10? X=8? X=5?

If you do not use your pass in the first X moves, it carries over to the next X moves during which you can pass twice (etc)

I'm gonna try and rand this and draw up final rules tomorrow so we can get move one on Monday.

I don't think that's kokiri's style.

I think there will be enough sub-optimality already.

What he's suggesting is basically chess werewolf.

Everyone pretends to be on the same team but some are secretly working against you and collectively work out who is sabotaging the game.

Lets just see how a normal game goes before we start with traitor roles. It seems random enough as it is

Here's what I have:
  • Everyone's getting a pawn and a piece
  • 24 hour cycle for moves, 48 hours for weekends
  • Moves submitted to me by PM. Moves to be submitted in some form of notation I'll understand.
  • You may only submit one move, and it has to be for one of your pieces
  • If you have a legal move for either of your pieces, you MUST submit a move.
  • If you don't submit a move, I will rand() one from amongst your legal moves. I may cock that up, that's on you.
  • You may pass once per 10 moves. That must be an active decision - i.e. you submit *pass*. If you don't submit, see the above rule.
  • When all the moves are in, I'll pick one at random.
  • No research
  • No strat talk in thread
  • err, that's it?

Anyone spots any obvious flaws, let me know. PMs going out now.

OK, PMs should have gone out to the following:
All-inMcLovin
Bloobird
Bob Dobelina
bolt2112
Duckburg;
Eric
Gabethebabe
housenuts
iamnotawerewolf
iraisetoomuch
lilrascal
Luckbox Inc
Mark_K
rtspurs
Tuma
xander biscuits

Have I correctly allocated all the pieces? Are any missing? Who knows. If you're White, you have 23 hours to submit your first move. The game clock is going to run to 9pm UK time, no idea when that is server time.

Are we allowed to discuss what pieces we have? Cant see how it would hurt.

Either way, I submitted.

Personally, I think it would be more interesting not knowing who has which pieces/pawns. Not a big deal, of course, just personal preference.

Randing a single move from all the legal moves is going to make exchanges very difficult.

i.e. I assume the proper strategy in this environment is just to blast your pieces at the opponent and figure the odds of a piece retaking your piece will be small.

Am I misunderstanding the rules?
