Let's run this back.

The rules:
  • The aim is to get 32 signups, and then each player will represent a piece. (If we get fewer, then we'll just assign each player 2 or 3 or whatever pieces)
  • Each move, anyone with a piece (or pieces) of the appropriate colour may submit a legal move using their piece. Submissions to me via PM.
  • There's no requirement to submit a move.
  • I rand() out of the submitted moves.
  • Err, chess rules.
  • Um, that's it.
  • Clear?

In in the thread and we'll see how many we get, and when we can start.

In for a middle pawn. Or queen. Or buried rook.

It’d be interesting if teams had a chat in which they could discuss the best move. No engines obv.

/not in now.

I don't follow?
Then the chat decides the best move - and that's the only move submitted?

That's called normal chess?

It’s way more interesting if they don’t imo.

Yeah, but the the collective hivemind decides, so it’s really “team chess”. Anyway, I see my idea is not popular, so I’ll stop trying to push it through.

I guess I don't understand what happens if two members of team white both want to make a move at the same time. Let's say that me and a teammate are both pawns and we both send in an opening move. What happens?

The submitted moves are randed to determine the actual move.

As Ibd says, i take in all the suggestions and randomly pick one.

Maybe next time we’ll try a variant where _all_ the suggested moves take place.

In.
Also, there should be a time limit. 24 - 48 hours.
Is discussion allowed itt about general strategy? I.e. "pass if you're in a 'it would be stupid to move' situation"?

We'll definitely have some sort of clock.

I can't make my mind up about how much discussion to allow. I'm minded to allow some discussion in-thread, to foster berating and general hilarity, but I'm not quite sure where to draw the line. Any smart suggestions welcome.
