Not long before this game started, I was looking something up for a movie haiku I was composing and ended up going down an online rabbit hole of trashy '80s movies. Which is really the pinnacle of trashy films -- it was after the '70s, when horror and exploitation movies got more explicit, but before CGI, so the special effects were both visceral and incredibly cheesy.

Based on my trip down that rabbit hole, I knew a few scream queens plus a couple prolific directors, as well as Lloyd Kaufman, who is one of the guys behind Troma Films (purveyors of trash cinema even to this day -- was surprised he was involved in a few legitimate movies, too.)

I think the explosion in trashy movies in the 80s was the invention of the VHS tape.
Before that, the producers actually had to get their movie onto a movie screen. After that, all you needed was a catchy title and artwork on the box that would catch the eye of people browsing through the video rental store.
All of a sudden, Troma was the new MGM!
