Splitting makes it easier to play, but more work for the mod. The reason I'm doing it this game is to lower the barrier for entering. No massive day 1 thread to plow through

I'm not splitting based on balance. I don't mind if one thread is 1-2 players bigger than the other. I just think threads < 24 players are a bit small and threads up to 35 players can be easily managed. Also there are some other considerations, like the number of players that is killed on day 1, which is f(number of threads)
I think you don't need to worry much. Most of the spammers are probably in the other thread.
