Welcome to eight instalment of the Harry Potter Mish-Mashes on POG.

This game was designed by UncleDynamite but Willi provided valuable insight.

IT IS NIGHT. DO NOT POST.

Werewolf Rules and Etiquette

If you are new, please click here.
If you are not, you should know what's up. But no one will tell you anything if you click all the same. Just in case.

Times and Deadlines

  • Day will break around 8AM EST.
  • Night will fall at 9PM EST.
  • From night 1 on, Night Actions need to be submitted by 6AM EST.
  • On night 0, I will Night Actions until 7AM EST
  • Unless specified otherwise Day actions will not be processed during the first and the last hour of the day.

Do's and don'ts

The obvious
  • Do not edit your posts. This is an instant modkill.
  • Do not character claim. Do not hint at your character. This is an instant modkill.
  • Do not quote your role PM. Do not copy/paste it. Do not screenshot it. That's a paddl... you guessed it, an instant modkill.
  • Do not talk about unrevealed role PMs. We will judge this situation case by case, but never has the "better safe than sorry" proverb been more appropriate than in this case.
  • Do not nightpost: :00 GOOD, :01 BAD, :02 MODKILL.
  • This game does not allow deadposts.
  • If you are (or were) playing in this game, live or dead, do not talk about the game, to anyone, outside the game thread and private chats that may have been granted you by the game moderators.

The less obvious, but similarly important
  • Do not talk about subs and modkills.
  • Do not invoke for moderator decisions in the game thread. PM the mod account instead.
  • Do not intentionally edit the subject line of your posts.
  • You have signed up, so we expect you to participate. If you are unable to participate at all, please PM the mods and we will try to sub you out. Please have a good reason: "I'm a rustled by this game" or "I don't want to play anymore" requests will be promptly turned down.
  • Players who failed to post at least 5 times by EOD (on day 1) or 10 times (from day 2 on) risk being subbed out or modkilled.
  • Players who failed to post at least 10 times by EOD but are not modkilled, will be mod-roleblocked for that night. Unroleblockable actions are inefficient against mod roleblocks.
  • If you have means of outside-the thread communications, do not post the text of such communications in the game thread.

STILL NIGHT, NO POSTING!

Multiple lives
  • This game may or may not feature players that may have multiple lives.
  • Any action that says "kill" or "target for death" will take one life of its target.
  • The lynch always voids all the lives of the lynched players.

Poison

Should angeling or poison effects exist, angels will not save from poison.

CLAIMING RESTRICTIONS

First of all, some of the words I am about to post will not make sense to you yet. They will make sense after you read some of the posts below this, though.
  1. This was already mentioned: do not claim or hint at your character or be modkilled.
  2. If you have an unclaimable role (or an unclaimable ability), do not claim it. Do not claim that you have an unclaimable role (or ability).
  3. With the exception of Silentcasting, you may not claim any of your codewords.
  4. With the exception for your Potion codewords, you may not hint at your codewords either.
  5. Things like "I am really bad at Potions" or "I am good at Potions" are accepted.
  6. However, you may not claim the fact that you do not have a Potions codeword.
  7. If your item is store-bought or a Horcrux, you may claim its name.
  8. Otherwise, you may not claim the name of an item you have, or hint at it.

SPELLCASTING RESTRICTIONS
  1. Should you know one or more Special Spells and unless your role PM says differently, you may cast one Special Spell per ITA session.
  2. Every day, you may cast three spells (any combination) choosing from Avada Kedavra, Crucio, Imperio, Legilimens], BUT Legilimens is limited to 1/day and Avada Kedavra counts for 2.
  3. Additionally, every ITA period you may cast one Stupefy or Expelliarmus.

SPELLS

General rules
  1. Spells are cast during ITA sessions (these will start on day 2). In order to cast a spell, write the incantation and the target in bold red.
    For example, Avada Kedavra Gabethebabe.
  2. If you fail the formatting of a spell, either because you misspelled or messed up some tags, you will be required to re-cast your spell at the same target as quickly as you are able.
  3. You can’t just cast 1000 spells per day. There is a spell limit. This has been discossed above, this will be re-posted below and you should read it with care, as overcasting will be punished.

Silentcasting:
  1. Players with the Silentcaster codeword and players that acquire Silentcasting abilities during the game (if such a thing is possible!) may cast their spells by PM instead.
  2. Silent spells receive a 1.2 multiplier due to their surprise effect. A 20% Crucio cast silently becomes 24%.
  3. Silentcasters my cast spells publicly to hide their ability - these spells will be fake and always produce a miss (“No effect”).
  4. If a silentcaster wishes to cast a real spell in public, (s)he must alert the mods in advance.
  5. Public spells are processed before silent spells, if cast in the same time stamp (hh:mm).

Standard Spells

A reminder:

SPELLCASTING RESTRICTIONS
  1. Should you know one or more Special Spells and unless your role PM says differently, you may cast one Special Spell per ITA session.
  2. Every day, you may cast three spells (any combination) choosing from Avada Kedavra, Crucio, Imperio, Legilimens], BUT Legilimens is limited to 1/day and Avada Kedavra counts for 2.

Special Spells:

This game features several Special Spells. These spells will not be listed here.
  1. If you are told that you know a Special Spell, then you may successfully cast it (your degree of success may vary depending on your magical talent and other factors.). Otherwise, tough luck.
  2. The Special Spells you know will be sent to you in a separate PM. If someone peeks you, they will see that you know one or more Special Spells, but they will not know what Special Spells do you actually know.
  3. If you know a Special Spell, you may claim it (and/or its effects) if you think that is wise.

Spell limits for Special Spells:

Unless your role PM tells you otherwise, you may cast one special spell for ITA session.

POTIONS

If you have one of the following codewords: Potions level: Professor, Potions level: N.E.W.T., Potions level: O.W.L. or Potions level: First Year, you are allowed to brew Potions.

If you do not have any of these codewords, you may not brew potions.

This is the list of all Potions that can be brewed:

Potion nameRequired ingredients
Draught of the Living DeathAsphodel, Boomslang, Cockroaches, Porcupine Quills
Felix FelicisAsphodel, Cockroaches, Hellebore, Shrivelfig
Forgetfulness PotionLionfish, Porcupine Quills, Shrivelfig
Invigorating DraughtBoomslang, Lionfish, Wormwood
Strengthening SolutionHellebore, Lionfish, Moonstone
VeritaserumCockroaches, Moonstone, Shrivelfig, Occamy Shell
Veritaserum antidoteBoomslang, Moonstone, Porcupine Quills, Wormwood
WolfsbaneAsphodel, Hellebore, Wormwood
  1. The effects of these potions will not be explained in this post.
  2. Every Potion in this game has four levels of difficulty. Here they are, in ascending order: First Year, O.W.L, N.E.W.T. and Professor. This post will not explain which potion has been assigned what difficulty.
  3. For every level of difficulty above the codeword of the Potion brewer, there will be a 25% chance that the brewing will fail.
  4. Thus, given the correct ingredients, a player with the Potions Level: First Year codeword will be able to brew Professor-level Potions with 25% accuracy.
  5. There is no additional penalty for brewing failure (provided the ingredients were correct, of course).
  6. If a player manages to brew a potion, they will learn the effect and purpose of the potion that they just have brewed, and they can feel free to reveal this effect in the game thread, if they feel that it is wise to do so.

Potion Ingredients

The Pogwarts Potions Cupboard contains a variety of ingredients, in the following quantity:
  1. Unless there is an in-game effect that overrides this, a player’s ingredients disappear with their death.
  2. You may note that the Bezoars is not listed as an ingredient for any of the Potions listed above. This is no oversight. Maybe there is another way to use them?
  3. You may also note that Occamy Shells are not present in the Cupboard. Maybe there are other ways of acquiring them? Who knows.

IngredientNumber
Asphodel30
Bezoar30
Boomslang30
Cockroaches30
Hellebore30
Lionfish30
Moonstone30
Porcupine Quill30
Shrivelfig30
Wormwood30

Collecting ingredients
  1. Every player in the game that can brew Potions will start the game with a certain amount of ingredients (2 is the most popular quantity).
  2. Every day, starting day 1, every player that is able to brew Potions may send a PM to the moderator with the following subject line: [steal an ingredient from (playername)], [pick up (ingredientname) from the Cupboard] or [send (ingredientname) to (playername)].
  3. If you steal, you will steal a random ingredient from your target. If you send, you will send the ingredient that you named to your target.
  4. If you pick up from the Cupboard, you will have a 50% chance of picking up the ingredient you requested. Otherwise, you will pick up a random ingredient.
  5. An important note: stealing, picking up or sending ingredients are Night Actions that are processed at night.
  6. These Night Actions cannot be tracked or watched.
  7. However, these actions are to be submitted during the day (and not during ITA sessions). If a player has lost or received ingredients as a result of these actions, they will learn it at the Night Action deadline. You will not receive a feedback on your PM during the day.
  8. Woe betide you if you try collecting ingredients during ITA sessions.

Brewing Potions
  1. Brewing Potions is a Day Action, with all consequences this entails.
  2. Provided you have the correct ingredients, every day, starting day 1, you may attempt to brew a Potion.
  3. In order to brew a potion, send a PM to the moderator with the subject line [brew (potionname)]. Do not do this during ITA sessions. You will be informed whether the brewing was successful or not.
  4. If the brewing was not successful (due to brewing failure or other factors) the ingredients you used will disappear.
  5. If the brewing was unsuccessful due to other factors, you may or may not retain the ingredients. You will be informed whether you retained the ingredients or not.
  6. If the brewing is successful, you will receive the appropriate Potion, with full instructions on what does it do and how to use it.
  7. Potions are considered items with all the consequences this entails.

I have brewed a Potion and read your ridiculously enormous post. What now?
  1. The brewer will receive instructions regarding the effect of the Potion that they just brewed.
  2. A brewed Potion is an item that must be administered to a target player. Unless the instructions that you will receive specifically say otherwise, Potions are administered to players during the Night, and that act qualifies as a Night Action.
  3. Unless specified otherwise, you do not have to use a brewed Potion immediately after brewing it, but can wait as much as you wish.

ITEMS

This game features items. Items have various properties and often grant you additional abilities.

Item inheritance
  1. When a player dies, their items are obtained to the player that killed them.
  2. If a player is simultaneously killed by more than one player, the item will be randed to one of the killers, unless another effect supersedes this.
  3. Unless another effect supersedes this, if a player is lynched, the item will be randomized to one of the player that were voting for that lynch at End of Day.
  4. Unless another effect supersedes this, if a player carrying an item and all of that player’s killers die simultaneously, the item will be randomized to a player that shares the affiliation of the killers.
  5. Unless another effect supersedes this, if a player carrying an item and all of that player’s killers die simultaneously, the item will be randomized to a player that shares the affiliation of the killers.
  6. Unless another effect supersedes this, if a player carrying an item, all of that player’s killers die simultaneously, and the killers do not all have the same alignment, the item will be randomized among living players.
  7. If two players contend for an item due to the abilities they have, and these abilities are of equal rank, the item will be randomized between them.
  8. If an item cannot be stolen, it disappears with the player’s death.

Item claiming
  1. If you have purchased an item, you may freely claim its name and its effects if you think that is wise.
  2. You may not claim the precise wording provided in the instruction.
  3. If you are carrying a Horcrux or a Deathly Hallow, you may freely claim its name and its effect (if you think that is wise, of course).
  4. Otherwise, you may claim an item’s ability and you may claim that the ability you are claiming comes from an item (if you think that is wise!) but you may neither claim not hint that item’s name.
  5. For example, if you are carrying an item called Excalibur, and that item makes you a vig, you may claim that you are a vig or that you have an item that gives you a vig. You may not claim that you have Excalibur.

Horcruxes
  1. If you are familiar with the theme, you already know what Horcruxes are.
  2. Otherwise, you should know that Horcruxes are object in which Lord Voldemort (a werewolf) and the main antagonist of this game, has hidden parts of his soul.
  3. If a Horcrux is destroyed, there will be a public announcement that says “A Horcrux has been destroyed”.

A note about win Conditions and vanilla villager role PMs

Role PMs do not have win conditions in them.

The village win condition is: “The village wins when they have eliminated all threats to the village.”
The wolf win condition is: “The wolves win when they cannot be mechanically prevented from eliminating all threats to the wolves.”

Other win conditions, which may or may not exist, are not disclosed.

This is the vanilla villager role PM:

Galleons
  1. Galleons are the currency of this game and can be used to buy many useful things.
  2. Unfortunately, most of you will start the game without any Galleons to your name.
  3. Playing (and winning) in events is a good way to obtain Galleons.
  4. You are allowed to claim how many Galleons you have.

STORES
  1. This game has no troll items. Every item for sale has its use.
  2. If the stock of a particular item is not specified, that item will not be sold out.
  3. Once you acquire an item, you will learn what it does (and you will be able to claim that information if you think that is wise).
  4. Most items entail a Day or Night Action. Unless the item description says otherwise, they do not have to be used at the first opportunity.
  5. Items may only be purchased during the day, and not during the first or last hour of the day. All stores are closed at night.
  6. Albeit rare, it is possible for the price and the effect an an item to vary depending on the role and/or affiliation of the buyer.

I forgot to copy/paste from Gabe's game post this very important message. So here goes:

SPELL DEFENSE
  1. All players autocast the Shield Charm (Protego) -if they are able to do so- when a spell is cast vs them. This reduces their chance of getting hit.
  2. Protego does nothing vs Avada Kedavra, Imperio and Legilimens. (10% Protego will reduce a 30% spell to 27%).
  3. Players have an Agility which will help them dodge Avada Kedavra (10% Agility will reduce a 30% AK to 27%)

ITAs and Events.

ITAs
  1. ITAs will start on day 2 and last as long as the day starts with at least 18 players.
  2. Three sessions per day (11AM EST, 2:30PM EST, 6:30PM EST) are planned. However, as the number of player thins, I reserve the right to switch to two ITA sessions per day.
  3. Each ITA session should last approximately 30 minutes.
  4. If you cast a spell at a fresh corpse, you will get the spell back, so less reason to wait for everything to resolve.

Events
  1. Here's a link to the Event Thread.
  2. Please check out the three events that have already been posted there.
  3. Events will run as long as the day will start with at least 16 players.

FRIST?

My take on potions. The below is entirely based on guesses (except Felix Felicis) and what I know the ITA module does and can do (like Felix Felicis)

Potion NameEffectDifficulty
Draught of the Living DeathNA KillProfessor
Felix Felicis+25% to agility, +50% to spellsOWL
Forgetfulness PotionNA Roleblock!st year
Invigorating DraughtImprove AK/Crucio/ImperioOWL
Strengthening SolutionImprove Expelliarmus/Stupefy1st year
VeritaserumNA PeekProfessor
Veritaserum anti-doteDon't brew if you are a villagerNEWT
WolfsbaneDon't brew, unless you are Remus LupinNEWT

If there exists a villager role that hands out Occamy Shells, I don't need them.

Day 1 all potion brewers are recommended to take from the store. Your reads aren't good enough and you will miss if your target isn't a brewer.
Also if you would like a specific ingredient, you are much better off picking that from the store and hoping you win the flip.

I would recommend random students to not put too much effort into brewing high level potions, only to see your brew fail.

If I am an even seer I peeked Namath12 villager
If I am an odd seer I peeked your momma
If I am an affiliation seer I peeked No Lynches villager
If I am a full seer I peeked theknightsofneeee non-villager
If I am a random seer I peeked Beck Novo villager

Good morning everyone!

Some information follows:

First: HYPE FOR MY FIRST POG VILLAGER RAND!!! STOKED not to rand wolf with less activity than normal.

2) My schedule for this game (as alluded to in the sign up post):
Today: high activity (phone posting some part of the day, comp for some). Will most likely be here for all ITA sessions. If I am available, I will be entering events. I will be making a judgement call on risk of death events (do these exist??)
Tomorrow+: Lower activity (phone posting some part of the day, comp for some). No guarantee to hit the ITA sessions, but I will probably make at least one. If I am available, I will be entering events. I will be making a judgement call on risk of death events (do these exist??)

3) List of players that I know I can read with HIGH confidence:

Dels
Dlgn (after a while)
Wiggles
Montecore
Onuzq
Shad
Viggorous

Other players that I can read with having a clue of what I’m doing:

Apoc
Duk3star
Foopme
Lissa
Panther
Banks
Knights
NeedMoreManasi

For EVERYONE ELSE, they are either people that I have RARELY/EVER played with or are HISTORICALLY difficult reads for me, so I will have to rely on my scum/townhunting skills to solve

4) As told in the OP, we are allowed to claim whether we are good or bad at potions. What do you all think about claiming this immediately and WIFOMING our ingredients actions to those that are towny and good at potions?

5) THIS IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT: FOR THOSE THAT HAVE PLAYED UD GAMES BEFORE, do wolves typically have an ANTICLAIM?? PLEASE RESPOND IMMEDIATELY to this, as if not I may be saying more.

6) GL HF everyone. Would appreciate someone refreshing me how to ISO and otherwise navigate POG, as I do not have a wolfchat to brief me.
