I just set up a Teotihuacan game here: https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=133932962

If a fourth wants to join, just let me know.

If we want to start multiple different games, that's okay too.

EDIT: It's possible that we all need to be on at the same time to start. I haven't done many turn-based games.

Biggest downside is cards get repetitive though that won't matter maybe if you don't play a ton.

I'm alright with most of those with terra mystica being the obvious veto (seems a bit heavy to learn online but maybe I'm wrong)

I'll have a look at this Clans of Caledonia game later on. Maybe get one of those going too.

Awesome that this thread exists... I wonder how I never discovered this before. Maybe because I just wasn't that into board games 10 years ago.

In any case, I've started becoming pretty serious about board games this year - even to the point of wanting to design games myself. I think I'm at about 110-120 games in my collection currently.

So I'm hoping we can keep this thread rolling

I'll do my part by posting pics and mini reviews of games that I play

PHOTOSYNTHESIS

A very visually appealing game that works decently well as a gateway game.

The theme is unique and well done.

In reality, it's quite an abstract game, so if you're looking for a light abstract game when Chess isn't quite what you're looking for, then Photosynthesis might scratch that itch for you.

I would, however, say that I've only played it with 2 players and I'm almost confident it's way better with 3 or 4 players. As a 2-player game it's quite confrontational (and I imagine less random than a 3- or 4-player game), but if you're into that then there are no minuses. I just think for me the theme exudes an air of "calm" and "beauty" that isn't totally the feeling you get from a 2-player game where your every move should be calculated to hurt the other person instead of just being able to focus on growing beautiful trees :P

Overall I give it a 7.5/10, but it could potentially be higher when I try it with more than just 2 players.

yeah Photosynthesis is a beautiful game

I don't know that I've ever seen the christmas tree version of the blue tree

did you add that yourself or was that some special version?

it's definitely better 3-4 players

Dumb question about Risk: Europe, if anyone here has played it and can explain something simple to me.

The siege weapons, calvary, and archers roll against each other and if the dice roll is high enough it is a hit, but what to the piece if the roll isn't high enough? Is it removed? Or I may be getting the whole thing wrong anyone able to help this dotard?

Can anyone suggest an option or two for a good modern trivia game?

I love Trivial Pursuit and would 100% settle for a modern version of it, but I am not aware if they have made a recent Genus of the Master Game. I have a copy of the original 1981 Genus Edition, and the 2000 Genus V as well. A lot of their other versions modify the game, severely reduce the amount of clue cards, aren't just as good, or are themed versions.

Anyways, looking for suggestions for some good modern trivia games if anyone has them.

Half Truth is fun

By Ken Jennings and Richard Garfield

There are 6 answers on each card with 3 correct and 3 incorrect and you get bonus points going for more than 1 correct

We’ve played it in POG a few times if you search for it

I've been playing a lot of heads up games against my fiancee lately: Love letter, monopoly deal, perudo for example.
All games that are relatively easy to learn and take max 30 min per game.

Anyone have more recommendations like these games? We don't really like games that take 3 hours

Would be very down for some real-time Sushi Go on BGA if we could coordinate it.

a few 2-player versions of games that are good:
7 Wonders Duel
Yokohama Duel (haven't played yet, waiting on KS to arrive, but it'll be good bc Yokohama is the bomb)
Caverna Cave vs Cave

Don't know Yokohama.

But the other two, while very good, are a step or two up in complexity from Love Letter and Monopoly Deal.
