Haven't played Dominion, but surely you'll get an answer here.

There is certainly an element of luck in Dominion, more so than Puerto Rico. A couple of good hand draws can put you in really good position. Though really, the strategy is figuring out how to get good hands. But still, far less luck than most games out there. It is a really fun game though. The coolest part is games often play differently based on the cards out there. There is a really good online version here http://dominion.isotropic.org/

Certain number of players are randomly chosen "wolves" before the game. Each round someone picks a team they want to send on a "mission". All players vote for if they want this team. Then each player on the mission votes if it passes or fails. If one player votes fail, the mission fails. You do 5 missions and best score wins. Really cool variation of werewolf that keeps people playing for the whole game. Really you don't even need the board game, you could probably do this with a deck of cards.

I rank 7 Wonders higher than Dominion these days.

Very different games, Dominion you can get lucky draws a bit but it's not really luck based. PR pretty much 0 luck (like most good games)

Bought Citadels a few days ago and took it camping. Best played with 4-7 players, but it can work with anywhere from 2-8. Played 3 and 6 player games with it and the more players the better. Fun and it's simple -- just cards and a few tokens, no playing board and no setup required, and seems pretty dynamic as every turn you can play as a different character.

I've been looking at Citadels but my buy list is too long already lol.
I got Hive the other day, pretty nifty little game and great for travelling.

Would be interested in playing/learning PR online as well. My offer of teaching/setting up 7 Wonders still stands if we can get 3-5 people.

Has anyone played Ascension? My MTG friend told me about it. It was created by a few MTG pros. It's not a collectable game, so it's buy the set and you're done with it (save expansions).

Yeah I only played it once though. Its very similar to Dominion.

I just came back from playing Ascension. It's pretty fun. It is very similar to Dominion, but with lower complexity IMO.

It's a deck building game a la Dominion (think MTG deck building aspect turned into a game).
I think Thunderstone played in the epic variant is probably better. You want to get Dragonspire (stand alone expansion i.e. you can use that as your starter box)

Personally I think Nightfall is the best deckbuilder, check that one out. Nightfall: Martial Law is better so get similar to Dragonspire for Thunderstone

I only own Dominion but will buy Nightfall as soon as the German version of ML is out. Played all of them and would rank them:

as of now but have played them with different groups, expansions, some multiple times and Ascension only once etc

Has anyone here used Vassal? Apparently it's an engine that people write modules to to allow people to play games online. It seems similar to Apprentice/MTG Workstation and the like. I don't think the rules are implemented in it, but I've yet to try it.

All of the games Clown has mentioned is apparently on there. If anyone is up for trying it, let me know and I would be willing to learn a new game or two.
