Change that to reveal and you’ll be spot on, imo.

If their first and main language isn’t English but they do speak English as a second language (as most do in Europe) then it’s ok?

Like Bjork’s first language is Icelandic but she sings and can speak in English.

That's what I'm going with. Not necessarily B, but maybe.

I've got most of the songs figured out, though I might just change my mind a few times before submitting. I'm excited about my song in English by a singer whose first language isn't English. I'm very excited about a song sung in another language.

Absolutely so. In fact, that is what I expect people to submit.

She definitely fits the category, but I have to say that I don't love her stuff.

Doesn't like Bjork doesn't bode well for me

Simple enough, avoid the ones we all know and love and find something somewhat original for me

Where do your musical tastes lie?

This is an example of a song that would do really well in my category if I wasn't already very familiar with it:

Will give some specifics later
Use your judgment. Female singers I really like that are indie or at least out of mainstream:

Kate Bush
Natalie Merchant (more so with 10k Maniacs)
Breeders (Kim Deal obv)

I don't want to steer anyone anywhere in particular so I won't list anymore but those are probably the predominate female artists I listen to from before the era in question

I'm submitting a local band, so there's a good chance you haven't of them. If you have - good for them!

Very good question, and it varies significantly.

My fiancé is part French, and Latina, but born in California. Her taste has grown on me, I.e French rap and Latin music. She also loves 70s music like me, whether it’s your disco to the big rock legends that you love on your record player old school style.

Similarly I played drums in a punk rock band, and was born in the late 80s. I went through an underground hardcore rap phase as well as an emo peak.

I enjoy sitting down listening to jazz with a blantons old fashioned in hand, or relaxing to an acoustic song.
Get me dancing and mining with a power Ballard and watch my drunken moves to some r ‘n’ b.

In essence, I participate in these to experience new music, be it your categories or mine. Thus, for the most part try to avoid submitting an obvious band unless it’s a song I may not have heard before.

Sorry for not clearing anything up
