They don't have to be long. Some examples:

Rush - Tom Sawyer. There's a drum solo in the middle of this.

Avenged Sevenfold - Beast and the Harlot has another drum solo.

Led Zeppelin - Moby Dick. Probably the most famous.

Not going to put any more examples in as hopefully you can get the idea. If I get chance later I'll find youtube vids and link in here.

Just want a clarification about the drum solo category. Are you looking for a song with a kick-ass drum solo, or a kick-ass song with a drum solo? Ideally, both, I know. I guess I could ask you how much you weight the two things: drum solo vs. the song as a whole.

Ideally both.

I will be mostly ranking on how I find the solo though, so worse songs with kick ass solos will do marginally better than good songs with crap solos.

Electronic love songs must have two qualities to be a good category fit: a significant portion of the instrumentation is electronic, and it is discernibly a love song.

The song can be happy/sweet or sad/bitter, fast-paced or slow (I tend to slightly favor sad/bitter over happy/sweet and fast-paced over slow, so go nuts with that). It does NOT need to be EDM or something like that -- most of The Cure or New Order's oeuvre, for example, would qualify as electronic for this category even though they both have a large rock component. A band with two guitars, drums, and keyboards is perfectly fine here as long as the keyboards play a significant role. The song can be dance-y, synth-y, electroclash-y, poppy, rocky, whatever...I don't tend to like ballads or really ornate, soundscape-y arrangements, so pick those at your peril.

And I don't like most rap.

This might seem like a silly question...but does it HAVE to have lyrics?

Some of my favourite love songs are instrumentals, weirdly enough.

I really like songs with lyrics, so lyrics would be my preference. But if it's an absolutely fantastic instrumental, it's not going to rank at the bottom of the list just because it doesn't have words.

in.

My category: A song with exclusively (or almost exclusively) English lyrics that is performed by vocalist(s) that are not native English speakers.

Example: “Yes Sir, I can boogie” by Baccara.

Edit: if at least one of the parents of the performer is a native English speaker, I will ask you to resubmit.

Things you should know if you want to submit a song to my category:
  1. I hate rap and hip-hop.
  2. I do not like vocalists that do not enunciate well.
  3. I like well-polished songs. Indie songs are a bit of a risk.
  4. If you submit a song that I have already heard of, there will be a penalty. If you submit amsong that I have already heard of, and do it reasonably early, I will ask you to re-submit.

I'm guessing that [REDACTED] and [r.E.D.A.C.T.E.d.] are out, then. At least there are a lot of people who don't speak English, but do sing in English.

songs from the 70s I wouldn’t have heard before

Simple enough, avoid the ones we all know and love and find something somewhat original for me

category: badass bitches

give me a song that two gays can obsessively listen to while playing video games and drinking

most recent obsessions for reference:

if you give me something basic and/or that i've heard before (~songs with hundreds of millions of views most likely), you will be heavily penalized

bonus points if theres a cool music video

I'm in. My category is "and the". The artist must have the words "and the" appearing in its name. The words "and the" must appear consecutively. Such as "Blank Blank and the Blank."
