Question for filthy -

Are you looking for a villain you root for even though he/she is evil? Or more of a villain who you simply hate?

I'm thinking of someone like Walter White or Tony Soprano. They're both villains, but they have a lot of humanity and they're undoubtedly protagonists. What's your take?

Roger Corman - Pit and The Pendulum (1961)

I think this movie is great. Its got peak Vincent Price. Great cardboard scenery. Great languid pacing to help absorb the mood. The ending :chef's kiss: Love it.

someone who is compelling. so when they are on screen you are riveted. i dont think it matters much if you're rooting for them or not, just when they're on screen it's great entertainment

as for who is/isn't a villian... i would say walter white is def a villian. i would say tony soprano is too, but not as clearly.

i would say lisbeth salandar(girl with the dragon tattoo) is def NOT a villain. she is an anti-hero, but very heroic, and def not a villain

lmk if you need more clarification

A protagonist can be a villain, it just means that they’re the main character. TS and WW are great examples of the Villain Protagonist (not Antihero, which is claimed a lot).

Unbeatable, imo. Easiest #1 of the draft probably.

I knew 1994 would be first. Thought about taking it out if spite but I've got a preferred year that shouldn't go anywhere for a while.

wow you guys are really putting in a lot of prep time into this - never even dawned upon me to consider years would be asymmetric (and i still think solid chance 1994 doesn't win)

There are very different draft strategies and approaches, and these categories have a good mix of quality variance, and more objective/subjective categories n all

This category has a lot of good options, and a few outstanding ones. This is, IMO, the top of the list. He is an absolutely iconic character, and in the past 45 years has become ubiquitous in pop culture. A truly evil person, that does wretched acts, but with enough depth that he gets redemption in the end.

Darth Vader

Full writeup to come, but I'm thrilled to get the #1 pick out of the 10 hole. Best opening scene is easily Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Been a long day and don't have time to do a write up right now. Don't want to hold things up. I'll do the write up tomorrow.

I take Saving Private Ryan for opening scene.

Anyone wanna fill eb in on the opening scene to Saving Private Ryan?

Heist movies are one of my favourite genres and there are tons of good movies in it, but if you don't have Heat as your #1, then you're doing it wrong. This is not just the pinnacle of heist movies, this is one of the best movies of all time, period.

It's also the first time that De Niro and Pacino were on screen together, and it was absolutely everything you hoped it would be. I can't tell you how many times I've watched this, but it just never gets old.

Oh, and Mann has revealed that Heat 2 is his next project. I know how often these types of movies fail to meet expectations, but I am very excite.

Movie villains don't come any more riveting than Hannibal Lecter. Anthony Hopkins famously won a best actor oscar despite only being on screen for 15 minutes, and it's easy to see why. He wasn't even the main protagonist of the movie, and yet he's the one person you walk away from the movie thinking about. GOAT.
