Missing write ups:

Category: Most hated character from a TV show you love
Pick: Ralph Cifaretto - The Sopranos

Let's start with a quote:

Quote:

He's a despicable human even by mob standards. He's hated by made and unmade men alike. No morals, no remorse no redeeming features.

The character is meant to be hated and it's well written and well acted but he's hated nonetheless.

Futurama seems like the Spongebob pick in the 1990s Nick Toons category in a previous draft.

Yeah, it started before 2000, but nearly 90% of the episodes are 2000 and later.

Doubt it's going to judge well.

Category: Worst Flag
Pick: Qatar

Look at that monstrosity.

The colours look like a mistake. It looks like there's something wrong with the ink and it was meant to be a brighter shade of red.

The serrated divide looks like a mistake too. It looks like the sewing machine was put on the wrong setting or the only scissors you could find to cut the material were crimping scissors.

The shape of it looks like a mistake as well. Other flags are 1:2 or 2:3 or 3:4 or 4:5 in proportion. You know, sensible numbers. This eyesore is 11:28.

Look at the graph of flag aspect ratios and look at where Qatar lies:

Nepal is taller than is wide, but it's at least in the same zip code as the other world flags. Look how far out Qatar is. If you had this graph of data, it represented something else and you had to analyse it the first thing you'd do is assume that the Qatar point is a mistake and remove it from the data set. This flag is a mistake.

I'd post pictures of the flag next to others to show you how ridiculous those proportions are but it would bring undrafteds into the thread, but trust me it looks ridiculous. It looks like a wind sock.

So to sum up we've got a flag that looks like it was designed on whatever size paper was laying around using whatever colours were left (all the good colour felt tips had run out already) and it was sewn with the sewing machine on the wrong setting. The Qatar flag is the equivalent of the homework done by the kid who does it on the bus on the way to school.

I doubt it will judge well because I don't think that Eric is that into it, but I think it's a perfectly good category fit.

The category wasn't "Pre 2000s Sci-Fi/Fantasy" it was "Science fiction or fantasy television series that debuted prior to 2000"

Futurama fits that 100%. Perhaps it was just a slightly misleading abbreviation on my part so that it would fit neatly in the table.

Ah, okay. I retract my comment then.

I was surprised Iron Chef counted as not really a reality show, but I see IMDB does have that as one of the genres

Is imdb what you are going by? Or what is the criteria to qualify for competition reality show, Suq?

I'll take World Series Game 7 for Bucket List Sporting Event.

October is a magical time for Baseball; after playing more games than other sports and being near the top to qualify for the playoffs, teams then have to win 4 out of 7 games to advance (some rounds in some years are best of 5 or even of 3 for wild cards). One game won't decide who is the better team; you have to win the majority of games against your opponent.

Then you get to the World Series and the two teams are so even that they split 3-3 and it all comes down to just one game.

This has happened 40 times in MLB history and 15 have come down to just ONE run. Another 7 were just 2 runs and another 7 just 3 runs. All in all, 33/40 were within 4 runs, or a Grand Slam, of each other.

And while watching every pitch of all 162 regular season games for your team takes a LOT of time and can grow tiring, there is nothing boring about every single pitch in the World Series Game 7. It's got drawn out suspense that would make Hitchcock jealous. Especially in those late innings when the score is almost always within reach. There are no fourth quarters where you are just counting the time for the game to end. Teams can't just hold onto the ball and run out the clock. No, they have to prevent the other team from scoring on each and every 90mph throw of the ball in order to win.

I'm going outside the box, somewhat, for Hated character in show you love.

There have been many hated characters in the world of professional wrestling. The King of them all was clearly Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.

To put him in a specific show, I will choose the Superstars of Wrestling. I actually saw him, and learned to hate him, before that. Superstars really cemented my feeling, even as it was more open that the matches were scripted, and everyone was a player. Heenan played the role perfectly.

He was the ultimate Heel, primarily as a manager, but also as a wrestler. He was not averse to getting in the ring and taking a bump to get a pop from the audience. His other nickname, "The Weasel", came from a match with Greg Gagne wherein Gagne beat him up and put him in a weasel suit. Later, Ultimate Warrior did the same thing.

Nobody was a better heel; nobody was as hated for as long as "The Weasel" Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.

Nice. He wouldn't be my personal pick for most hated heel, but it's hard to disagree that he's a guy you love to hate.

More on this during my write-up, but this is not on my bucket list.

Spoiler:
I was sitting about 30 rows up, along the right field line, in 1997.

The only competitive reality show that I ever got into was Hell's Kitchen. The American series, since I have never seen the British original. The first season was must-watch tv for me. I would get home from work after midnight and watch the show, sacrificing sleep.

There had been nothing like Gordon Ramsay on North American tv before. I loved and hated him at the same time. The format of the show was engaging and enthralling. The various competitions were so cool and fun, I couldn't stop watching.

Hell's Kitchen set the stage for later cooking shows, but they are pale imitations of HK.

kinda loosely defined

id say a show where there's a winner and you get to know people?

iron chef seems fine

not sure if something like american ninja warrior would count as 'reality show' for example

Ok if American Ninja Warrior won’t count then neither will Jeopardy.

I’ll take a top 3 reality competition show

It has it all:

* Locations all over the world
* More variety of challenges than other shows since they are based on local activities or customs
* Partner dynamics
* Make or break choices between which challenge to do
* The ability for teams to sabatoge other teams with U Turns

You get the competitions, the bickering, the alliances, etc of other shows but also get to see the world and see unique challenges.

I almost took this round 2 so thrilled I was able to still get this now.
