Then I scrolled a bit further. And saw penguins. Then my other half saw the penguins and said "WE HAVE TO GO THERE". Great. Someone has clearly forgotten that because they are Irish, then they'll be okay, but as soon as I open my gob, I'll get shot. (Obviously, I'm not going to get shot...I hope...no, wait, I'm not Jeremy Clarkson in disguise.)
It's going to be a pain in the arse to get to. It's going to be expensive. It's going to be bloody freezing and I do NOT do well in cold weather as I am the slimmest individual in the country and have approximately 0.35% body fat reserves. And it probably involves getting on a boat to see penguins. But you know what? I see Ushuaia on the list and I can visualise my other half's face when we do get on that boat and see the penguins.
And that will make it worth it. So cheers, eyebooger, for the suggestion. If I die because of it I am definitely inviting you to the funeral in order for everyone to blame you.
I can't speak to how a British person would be received there (or Argentina in general). I don't specifically remember any British people on any of our group activities. My guess is you'll be fine, but they are not shy (especially on Tierra del Fuego) about their claims to those islands. Hell, the official name of the province is "Province of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands".
It really was a blast though. And definitely don't worry about the cold. It was like 12-15C when we were there. It's definitely going to be warmer than Iceland at peak northern lights season.
