Can't believe this fell to me, but I'll take it.
The worst contract in sports history:
JaMarcus Russell
He was drafted #1 overall in 2007 by the Raiders and was immediately a problem, holding out throughout training camp and into the first week of the regular season. He would eventually sign a 6 year contract for a maximum of $68 million, with $32 million of that guaranteed.
He was the backup for most of the 2007 season and pretty much sucked any time he came on the field. Despite this, he was named the starter for the entire 2008 season, where they would go 5-11.
Rather than cut their losses, he was named the starter for the 2009 season. After being terrible again, they would finally stop the madness and take away his starting position midway through the year. That offseason he was released.
He has never played a down in the NFL since. Final stats: 52% completion, 18 TD, 23 INT. The team's record in games he started was 7-18.
He has tried making several comebacks, including
offering to play for free.
But no one wants a fat QB with a ****ty work ethic.
