On a side-note, I finished the cookie crisp cereal I purchased for the POGcathlon grab bag, and it's safe to say I'll never taste that garbage again in my life.

And I have one bowl of fruity pebbles left to go and then I can say goodbye to that forever.

I'm still enjoying the cap'n crunch, though. I must have bought a family-sized box of that, and I'm completely okay with that.

Spurs' Crunchy Oats (or whatever it was called) that I ordered from Amazon never arrived and I got a refund. Next time I'm in the UK getting a box of that is way up on my list of things to do, along with hanging out with the queen & singing pub songs while I watch championship darts.

Rather than weighting each Secondary judge's picks, use them to determine a composite list, where each entry's position is the average of its positions on the allowed Secondary judges' lists.

E.g.

Judge A: bcde
Judge B: dace
Judge C: deab

Final list:

1. d (1.666=[3+1+1]/3)
T2. a,b,c (2.5=[1+4]/2=[2+3]/2)
5. e (3.333=[4+4+2]/3)

And we are on the same footing as the main judge.

∫(csc (main judge ranking)) + ∫(sin (median of three secondary judges ranking))

Any limits or are going to have to deal with a constant of integration too?

spectator reporting in - just let me know what you want from me if we're gonna be factored in somehow

Thanks, inD!

I guess the way to work this is let us know what you're willing to do...

A) Rank every category, but with no write-ups/minimal write-ups
B) Rank 3 (or so) categories with write-ups
C) Rank every category and do write-ups on all of them (as if!)
D) Something else

No matter what you choose, your interest and help is definitely appreciated.

i'm happy to do A or B, and some conditionals on that might help

if spec judging is a separate ranking instead of right next to secondary judging and i'm the only spectator doing this, i'll do A. if more people show up, we can divvy up categories and do B

if it helps the people math work out, i could just fill in gaps and do some written-up categories and some without hardcore writeups

First off, thanks again, inD, for stepping up.

My thinking is the ideal scenario is we get 3 spectator-judges (inD plus 2 others) who each rank every category with little or no write-ups expected. Maybe a paragraph or two to discuss their thought process of how they judged the categories, but hardly an in-depth look at each selection.

If we have 3 spectator-judges, then those of us in the draft can step aside entirely and only judge our own category (with a detailed write-up).

40% primary judge
20% each of 3 spectator-judges

Or, alternately, we can do the proposal put forth by Eric and make it 50% primary and a 50% composite of the secondary judges.

I'll bet if we ask some of the other usual suspects who are active in POG we could find 2 more volunteers. eleanor, Prip, suq, and TN immediately come to mind.

Worst smells is a perfectly respectable grab bag category. Let us know if you're in or not. I've got quite a list of funky odors to consider.

rebuttal...

There is a chance I will have smelled your submission previously in life even tho I can't recreate it now. SO I'll have some data stored for those too.

If I've never smelled it. Well I can imagine ...but you'll likely not podium

you can ask me if you want

Here we draft every category but our own, right?

A lot of these categories are really really subjective. This one is, too, but the number one is not. Regardless of if you watched the show or hated the ending or anything else, the pilot episode of Lost is the best pilot of all time.

These drafts are quite subjective, but I think there's a pick in this draft that's pretty much an objectively correct first overall pick.

Spoiler:
It's not Lost.

tough break because it either won't be there when you get to pick or you're wrong about it being the correct first overall pick.
