The future of Ms POG The future of Ms POG

02-03-2017 , 11:54 PM
For some years now, we've held a beauty contest in POG in which people select and advocate for "hot" women. However, times do change and I wish to canvass support or opposition to the thread. It certainly doesn't seem as well supported as previously and I wonder whether it's largely inertia that maintains it.

My belief about POG is that it is at its best as an inclusive space. It is a weird spot that's a bit different from the rest of 2p2. But I think it's increasingly shown itself to have problems in being a friendly place for women.

I accept that my view is not universally held and I am not seeking to impose it. What I am asking for is posts in favour of Ms POG and posts against continuing it. I would strongly prefer reasoned views to simple +1s but I think it's fair that if you entirely agree with someone's view, you could endorse it, but then I ask that you do not post again.

I ask also that we do not denigrate each other. No accusations, no personal slights. I will issue a one-day ban without exception for either. Don't think that you are exempt if you agree with me. But any argument for or against is fine, even if it seems unpalatable to others.

My own view is that it's time to move on and we could replace Ms POG with a person of the year contest. I feel that there is scope within that for film stars, models, whoever you like. But as I said, I want to test the water, not impose my own view.

this is why Trump won

I'd like pog to be a welcoming place for women. If you really want to have a beauty contest, every single other forum has one. I say we make pog different

It should go without saying that it's in poor taste. I was pretty shocked that so many of our (few) female members in the past were so enthusiastic about it. It can go away at any time as far as I care.

And for those of you who have dreams of revitalizing werewolf on POG, you should keep in mind that the gender ratios on POG have been a result of the gender ratios on 2+2, and do not reflect werewolf communities on the rest of the internet.

That a mere suggestion of an "accusation" or "personal slight" is enough to warrant a 1 day ban is sort of case in point of the highly toxic, rigid environment that is 2017 POG. Gone are the days of a lively, creative, fun forum full of drama and laughs

And so it is that the joyless moderati now turn their cannon on Miss POG, keen to stamp out the last vestiges of a fun contest (under the Palapatine-esque guise of "we're having a discussion" and "nothing will be imposed"). They're intent to interpret a thread in the worst possible light because of the laughably hollow complaints of a thrice-banned troll, who - it must be emphasized - had no problem running the event 2 years prior. And of course Timelady championed it for a few years as well, and no complaints were mounted. In fact, her nominations were often quite stellar.

The kerfuffle is a poorly choreographed charade. No one compels participation or interest, and yet the hobbyless clicked on it nonetheless, seeking to create a controversy and outrage out of thin air. Taking a stand against the most benign of threads -- an unclear injustice against victims unknown or non-existent.

The premise that a celebration of the female form/talents/personality is somehow untoward let alone offensive is, of course, flatly idiotic. And those that prostrated themselves before the absurdly obvious concern troll apparently feel the need to play out that losing hand right through to the end, even if it means having to shoot the dealer and anyone still in the pot.

Well, we tried a forum where we all had "fun" calling each other names and making games ugly brawls and now we have no games.

is this a joke?

having a beauty contest doesn't exclude one from making a separate person of the year thread

is this political correctness?

I'm understanding that you think we should objectify women but I'm not quite seeing what your argument for it is.

It's stupid and pointless and may be in poor taste, so I just don't get involved. The idea that other people shouldn't be able to do something because I don't like it is what's offensive.

You don't have to click on any thread that doesn't appeal to you.

There is a reason all the women left pog. Now we have only ONE high content female poster left and she says miss pog is offensive and the thread is making her seriously consider leaving pog permanently. We should listen to her, and respect her

This probably wont go well if you are going to moderate the discussion and take a position so strongly polarized that you feel the need restate/modify people's written positions so they align with your leanings on the matter.

His post didn't seem particularly helpful to me. Neither does yours.

Create a mr pog then, for balance
02-04-2017 , 02:42 AM
Crossnerd made a good post in the nomination thread that explained why that would not create balance.

I would love for us to have a POG's Person of the Year. That has the potential to be highly inclusive and to encourage appreciation for people in the world who we find to be valuable for reasons other than (or in addition to) their physical appearance. It also will create a thread that by its nature will be more than than an alternate Ms OOT.

Anyway, I thought we were here to share ideas/viewpoints with each other, not to help you. I'll just slide on out....

I fully support ending an activity founded on the basis of objectifying women.
