Cotton - easily the weakest
Dwarf - common job for them in mythology
File - file down their tools / creations
Fire - seems gtd
Force - htiting things to shape them
Hook - you'd make one
Key - same
Knife - same
Nut - might make one? (buts and bolts)
Oil - you might need it for the things they make?
Sound - hitting things makes sound
Washer - same as nut

All things that stood out as vaguely connected.

Then
Sound, File, Oil

Nut, Knife, Hook, Washer, Key all on a 3rd tier
Cotton on the a 4th one

The first thing when you think of blacksmiths beyond horseshoes is swords/knives

I think knife is >>>>>>>> key/hook and should be top 3 or maybe fourth if you want dwarf third

Cat makes sense

Bats are “flying rats”

Rabbits are small mammals

Rats famously spread disease

I think this clue keeps us away from buffalo and whale fairly nicely.

I’d say our three are in cat/bat/rabbit/disease with one of those three being neutral. I’d probably order it
