i'm kind of confused but if i go hog here
-i can't be eliminated so i'm in the final two (immune to democracy and dictator and cannot lose due to darwinism)
-i go into the last round in first place with at least an 8 point lead.
i'm not sure how the final round works but 8 point lead should be pretty tough to lose there.

yeah
as it happens, our plan from the original jeep (mostly) worked, with 4/5 of the top 5 being from our jeep, the only reason why not all 4 because someone went hog
don't overthink etc and roll with the plan decided from day 1 and everything works out

if you go warthog you're guaranteed first place
and no matter what pocket does (assuming you're with me) you get to axe him
so hooray etc

ya, i think that's right. i go hog here, make it to the last day as leader, as long as i submit gruffalo that day i can't lose, so i get first, you get second.
this was kind of a lame event, to be honest.

Unofficial, non-mod note:
I have seen this game work pretty well, but it depended on some alliances being kept (who do you think did that?) and others broken. Also, it was in effect winner-take-all at the time; the availability of 1st-2nd-3rd place points changes the dynamic somewhat. In other words, don't knock the game too much.
As in the game I played, it seems that here the most interesting and important decisions were made early. I've thought about the structure a fair amount, and it's pretty hard to make the end game as interesting.

My apologies, my aspiring Teddy Roosevelts -- I was making the trek from Meru to Nakuru (or was it Houston to Austin...).
Our report this evening will be brief. Manupod, brave warrior that he is, demonstrated his manliness by besting yet another (and perhaps the last remaining) warthog. He earned 2 points.
Meanwhile, Luckay and Pocket Infinities each decided to go out with a bang, as it were. Each sought for himself an animal worthy of his skill and determination, a beast the conquering of which would show the world just how much testosterone coursed through his veins. And each was successful in finding such a noble creature -- a cheetah.
Unfortunately, they had found the same cheetah; as they scuffled over who who would have the first shot, it slipped off into the savanna sunset, its fate to be determined not by the bullets of our intrepid explorers, but by habit depletion and ever-waning genetic diversity.
Luckay and PI each earned 0 points.
Our scores this evening stand at:
Manupod - 86 points
Luckay - 62 points
Pocket - 51 points
Random chance dictates what would come about regardless: Pocket Infinities cut himself shaving (with a straight razor, obviously) after the hunt, and the cheetah's tendency toward hemophilia seems somehow to have infected him, impossible though that may seem. He has been rushed to Nairobi for treatment; he will survive, but will be unable to continue the hunt with us.
Tomorrow we were scheduled for one more day of big game hunting, but I see that the result is writ in the stars that shine above us on this perfect African night -- no matter what happens tomorrow, Manupod must be deemed the most successful hunter from among our party. I therefore decree that no animals shy die tomorrow; the hut, and the game, is over.
Results:
Manupod -- First Place
LuckayLuck -- Second Place
PocketInfinities -- Third Place

Really didn't think Manupod was going to go warthog when we were down to 4. Figured him for Gruffalo.

THanks for modding atak, great writeups.
This game is what the players make of it. I agree my modding sucked, and that didn't help because the game lost momentum, but the previous safari Event was a success.

I was happy to finish thinks out -- it was fun doing the writeups. They might have gotten a bit tiresome if I'd had to do the whole game, or all three...
Safari's an interesting game, but it really is hard to make the endgame exciting. I also suspect it suffers from the championship format,a s defection is less valuable than it otherwise might be. I do think it's a game we should keep running, if infrequently.
Congratulations to the winners; thank you all for playing.
