I quoted a bunch of **** and didn't see this was old.
If you're leading trump and you're deciding between connectors you always play the high one in case your p has left guarded or something like that.
ordereadingordereadingtordereadingeading the ace of diamonds to pull 2nd seat straggle trump and make dealer go high (or likely lose the book). If your spade was good it wasn't going anywhere and you should be able to get a cut in after leading trump with three.

i'm fairly certain my default play here would be to play a diamond, probably the king
Again this is old. But the best way to think about it is that your p isn't a mind reader and know you have the ace so he has a tough spot.

This seems hyperbolic and partially wrong.

You're banking on the king of diamonds making it around, which is a pretty big gamble.
Essentially you never go alone unless you have three for sure tricks. .
The second one is a bit better, but I assume you ran into both bowers and count get your queen around.
In the last example, are you 9 or 4? There is no reason to ever go alone with 9 unless you are in a tourney.
You should def go alone without three for sure sometimes. Like right q9t isn't three for sure but you should auto loner with any card as the fifth (assuming not ordering other team).
Also things people never do that seem basic to me is ordering the best they have. You should always order the best you have to your p. So if you have 9/10 of your partners up card and the rest 9's you should always order. I also order any two trump to my pp barring having a much better hand in Hoyle.
Also I'd Hoyle best I have too. I assume everyone knows what Hoyle is.
