partner bids first and goes nil, RHO goes 6. is there ever a spot for both players in a partnership to nil?
I've never seen a situation where I would go nil after partner went nil...

But I think I'm doing it here. I mean we can't protect partner's nil. Bidding anything but nil here seems like a clear minus score. At least bidding nil we can go even and give some bags.

yeah, makes sense, i ended up going 1 and was somehow able to get partner's nil through. was such an odd spot that i thought it was worth a check

I haven't played spades in years. Love that game though and considered myself quite good back in the day.

You definitely cannot go nil here imo. While you will possibly have trouble protecting your partners nil your nine of spades is a problem if you make a nil bid and you just run into the possibly of having both of your nils set. One sounds like the correct bid as much as it sucks to make that bid. Basically you almost always take a trick with your nine of spades if you both go nil while there is still some hope that your partner doesn't have any spades or very low spades and can throw off on other suits, etc when you bid one.

Yeah, that 9s is an awkward card to have. There are 6 lower spades. Even if partner has as many as three, your NIL could still be set.

I suppose you have to bid 1 and hope partner doesn't have something like a stiff Td

Yeah there are times I go nil when my partner already nilled, but not with 9 of spades

Well, I will say that there are situations that I would here, but that would be based on the score creating the right situation or if I know my opponents are bad at setting nils and always go with a high card then try to go low so they’d cover my 9, but it’s rare to know an opponent that well and they are that bad

Message to AmazingErvin and Killer_Kill:

If you haven't already, sign up at the best euchre site on the internet: Ohioeuchre.com. They actually have an active forum there, probably the only one on the internet. So if you wanna post hands/debate hands, etc, that's where you go. My name on the site is Wes (aka the legend).

Also, if you guys ever come to Vegas (where I live) you gotta come play in our tournament. It's on Thursdays at 7:30pm. For more details go to Vegaseuchre.com.

PM me if you have any other questions.

Meepleville was really chill the one time I went there. Wish we had a spot like that here.

Yea it's a really cool place. Never would've thought a place like that could make it in today's world, a place that primarily sells board games. Next time you're in Vegas and plan on playing in our euchre tournament PM me.
