I feel like I'll come in like sixth or something as I continue to send in mediocre, inoffensive songs while other risk takers make the wrong gamble until only the true heroes remain

I full intend to spit in the face of safe choices and submit highly polarising stuff. This tactic will definitely blow up in my face in a round or two.

Let's put Dizzy/Eric out of their misery.

Dizzy submitted 'Welcome Home' by Coheed and Cambria.

Eric submitted 'Night to Remember' by Prism

Spoiler:
Dizzy's song doesn't build. There's a 13 second intro which is the best part of the song and then the band goes straight to 11.

This song is all style and no substance. It's pretentious and flashy.

--------

Eric's kicking himself because he could have gone with Alanis, stayed true to his Canadian roots, and found himself on the podium.

This song is mushy, cheesy, and I kept thinking that this would make a great theme song to one of my mom's Hallmark movies. He says it sounds better live, which may be true. This song really misses.

Spoiler:
I went back and forth on this several times in the last hour alone. In the end I'm keeping Eric because his song builds and that's what the category is all about. Dizzy's song really doesn't build.

Goodbye, Dizzy.

It almost sounds like you agree with my assessment, not that my assessment is wrong.

This would have finished in the nodium, but ultimately the submitter would have advanced to round 3.

Oh and I know why the drummer has his crash cymbal so high. It's because he was afraid he'd overuse it if it was closer and easier to reach.

game changer idea

if you are likely to overuse an instrument, just make it harder to reach

could instantly improve a good number of bands

should say 'super safe' for the super safe song

and Edge of Extinction for the song just above being cut

Round 3 Category: Side Project
Round 3 Deadline: 11:59 PM on Sunday, September 6th

I'm looking for a song by a person who is a regular member of a band who went off and produced/performed a song without that band.

Here's an important stipulation. The song has to be released while the member is still an active member of his/her band.

This is a valid timeline:

1) Band Member "A" is a member of band "B" and releases albums, goes on tour with band "B", etc.

2) Band Member "A" goes off on his own and produces an album or releases songs without band "B".

3) Band Member "A" resumes releasing albums and/or touring with band "B".

This is an invalid timeline.

1) Band Member "C" is a member of band "D".

2) Band member "C" leaves band "D" and releases new songs/albums.

3) Band member "C" never returns to band "D".

It is permissible, but not necessary for the side project to be a solo effort. If someone has an entire side band that's separate from their more recognizable band that they're most associated with, that's fine.

If an artist has already been used would I be able to pick that person's side project? I don't necessarily have anything in mind but it's the first question that popped into my head

I've thought of this, myself. Since the question was raised, let's go ahead and say the answer is "no." If you submit a side project song by Jimmy Page, of Led Zeppelin, for example, that will be invalid.

What about the inverse? Does a Jimmy Page song invalidate Led Zeppelin (if they weren't already used) for future use?

I'm only going to have this stipulation in place for this category. I don't plan to do the research to find out every band that a person has ever been associated with just for the purpose of eliminating people from this game.

If you want to submit a Jimmy Page song in round 4, that's fine.

For the record, 'Beck's Bolero' was performed by both Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin in round 2, and I never considered disqualifying that song.

So if I submit a solo artist then their band(s) is NOT disqualified in future rounds.

Example: I submit one of the Hanson brother’s solo song then we can still submit Hanson in a future round?

I thought about submitting Uninvited, but it just isn't interesting and I never felt like it was building.
