I want to say almost everyone did a great job with this category! Really enjoyed a high % of the songs submitted and I will be sad each round to see someone go.

If you guys are unfamiliar with Dennis Wilson, there's a number of good long reads out there on him

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_Wilson

Quote:
Some of Manson's songs were recorded at Brian's home studio.[11] These recordings remain unheard by the public.[12] Dennis also introduced Manson to a few friends in the music business, including the Byrds' producer Terry Melcher, whose home at 10050 Cielo Drive would later be rented by director Roman Polanski and his wife, actress Sharon Tate. Less than a year later, Manson family members would murder Tate and several others at this home.[11]
Quote:
In September 1968, Dennis recorded a Manson song for the Beach Boys, originally titled "Cease to Exist" but reworked as "Never Learn Not to Love", as a single B-side released the following December. It was credited solely to Dennis. Angered by this, Manson threatened murder.[13] When asked why Manson was not credited, Wilson explained: "He didn't want that. He wanted money instead. I gave him about a hundred thousand dollars' worth of stuff."[14] According to Beach Boys collaborator Van Dyke Parks: "One day, Charles Manson brought a bullet out and showed it to Dennis, who asked, 'What's this?' And Manson replied, 'It's a bullet. Every time you look at it, I want you to think how nice it is your kids are still safe.' Well, Dennis grabbed Manson by the head and threw him to the ground and began pummeling him ... I heard about it, but I wasn't there."[15]

As Dennis became increasingly aware of Manson's volatile nature and growing violent tendencies, he finally made a break from the friendship by simply moving out of the house and leaving Manson there.
Quote:
Dennis drowned at Marina Del Rey after drinking all day and then diving in the afternoon to recover items he had thrown overboard at the marina from his yacht three years earlier.

the PODIUM (in no particular order)

Spoiler:
Song: Yonkers
Artist: Tyler, the Creator
Submitter: D1iabol1cal

Notes: this was the only song on the podium I had heard before. I am a big OFWGKTA fan and D1iab nailed this one on the head. (yes, I know Prip submitted Frank Ocean but was never as much of a fan of his as other members of the group).

Great submission by D1iab and easy podium

Spoiler:
Song: HËÂT RŌČK
Artist: Tobe Nwigwe
Submitter: JMurder3

Notes: Never heard of this guy before but really liked his flow. Honestly a pretty similar styled song to Yonkers so shouldn't be surprising to see both make the podium here. Will definitely have to check out more by Tobe

Spoiler:
Song: Close Your Eyes
Artist: Kim Petras
Submitter: SuqAta8

Notes: I do like a lot of genres other than rap don't worry! Awesome electronic / synth-pop submission by Suq. Never heard of Kim Petras but this song has an awesome beat and I loved it from start to finish

the NODIUM (in a particular order)

the following two submissions are SAFE

Spoiler:
Song: Stand By Me
Artist: Cassius Clay
Submitter: FerencL

Notes: I may take some heat for having this one in the nodium - the song isn't terrible or anything it is just a bit slow/boring and not really the style I listen to.

It was definitely the highest ranked of the bottom three songs and wasn't really in trouble of elimination.

Spoiler:
Song: Can't Help Falling In Love
Artist: Kina Grannis
Submitter: Eleanor60

Notes: Was surprised to see Eleanor as the one to submit this one as he won my category in the last Walrus I did with a song I really loved. This one, not so much.

Yes, she has a great voice but ugh this song is soooo slow and boring. Not something I enjoy listening to at all. Either way Eleanor survives to see another day

---

Which means unfortunately our first elimination is:

Spoiler:
Song: From New York to L.A.
Artist: Patsy Gallant
Submitter: Eric

Notes: I was upset when I revealed to myself that Eric would be the first eliminated, but by then the damage is done.

Just a big swing and a miss for me on this one. Very slow opening that drags on and then the song turns into a musical-esque production and just really a type of music I do not like.

I am sure the generational gap has a lot to do with this one as well. Eric, sorry to see you go first my friend! Thank you for playing.

Well. I figured I would end up in the middle. I had hoped the bouncy beat and lyrical content would be enough to stay out of last place. Ouch. Just not your type of music.

Round 1 due by: EOD Saturday July 13th
Round 1 Category: Song with a Clever Title

Not sure how much time everyone will need in between rounds but I probably won't be able to listen/reveal until Sunday so will give a bit more time than I expect is needed.

With this category, you don't need to go crazy or anything but looking for some songs with clever or unusual titles. Remember - if you dupe a song with someone else you are eliminated!

Good luck!

No shame in losing to filthy. Lots of shame (all 'round) in losing to rap songs.

considered one of his worst ever. Very surprised BJ had 2.
Altho I must admit I toyed with the idea of "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" or "stiletto"

For many years, the sole member of the Mountain Goats was Darnielle, despite the plural moniker.

All Hail West Texas is the sixth studio album by the Mountain Goats. It is also the last album by the Mountain Goats to only feature John Darnielle.

I wouldn’t stress too much about it - any title that is just more unique or clever than your typical song title I would accept for this one - not going to be too harsh.

Couple examples using artists used last round:

Nothing Good Ever Happens At The Goddamn Thirsty Crow - Father John Misty
Sandwitches - Tyler the Creator

Edit: also I’m not judging based on the song title - that’s just a qualifier for the song to be eligible. Will still be judging on which songs I like the most musically.
