The cowboys gave up a 1st and a 5th? for Roy Williams who, imo, is worse than Braylon Edwards

Cowboys gave up 1st, 3rd and 5th for Roy iirc. I also agree that Edwards > Williams plus he's younger so I think this trade is much better for the Jets than the Roy trade was for Dallas, although since I have no idea about contract lengths of any of the players involved it's hard to know reasonable values.

I like Roy better than edwards from a football perspective

Roy has better hands but Edwards is more of a deep threat

What puts Roy ahead is his ability to block. He is one of the best Run blocking WR's in the nfl.

I hadn't considered the run blocking aspect and you might be right that Roy is a better overall player because of it. From a pure receiving stand point I prefer Edwards though, from what I've seen of the 2 he runs the better routes and gets better separation, which makes up for his worse hands (which I think is exaggerated a lot of the time).

I just looked up the Roy trade and it was 1st, 3rd and 6th and they got a 2010 7th in return. If the Jets didn't give up a first day draft pick then I like that deal a lot better and even if it was a 2nd I think I still prefer it.

I guess I can see it helping Cotchery but there aren't a lot of receptions to go around for the Jets. I'm not very optimistic

Slightly overpaid but they want to make a SB run this year/next year and WR was a rather shaky position.
Edwards will get many great looks he gets separation by himself all the time and vs the Jets you need to respect the run first (Browns are also run-first mentality wise this year but you don't need to focus on it as much due to their poor D if that makes sense) so they can't just double down on him all the time.

Play action to Edwards deep...we'll see it quite a bit I think.
Jets have many pieces I like it on paper but they are still the Jets :P

and as far as age goes Roy is 1 year older than Braylon

so same age when trade was made

but I agree that cowboys overpaid for roy. He is not a true #1 WR and they paid like he was.

Braylon has the skill set to be a true #1 but I think his 1 good year has kept him overrated since.
