Yea Ryan Grant is underrated because of lack of big name and an offense known for high oktane passing but he has a huge workload and produces near the top backs in the league, so pretty happy he fell there

Few guys I'm really debating over, will be a bit.

Can still take trade offers for like 20 minutes before I pick.

Ok, picked Steve Smith.

Hope I don't regret it, he is 31.

When I took McCoy it was because I thought a guy like Smith or Boldin would be available here.. and I preferred that combo to a other WR in rd3/current available RB options.

Now that he is available I was nervous about it for a long time. I think its a good decision, though.

As long as one of the 4-5 guys I want here drop to me in round 5 I'm gonna be extremely pleased with my first 5 rounds.

If one doesn't I'm gonna be exceptionally flustered when it gets back to me.

The more I've thought about my Smith pick the more happy I am.

I think there is a clear dropoff, and one that is well worth the age difference.

Really happy with my first 4 rounds.

Not wild about Pierre Thomas. Will never be a stud, but should be a dependable RB2 for years to come. About all I could ask for a 4th round pick. Doesn't have the upside of Best, but certainly has a higher floor.

Ok, I've decided there are 5 players I'm happy with and 7 picks to go.

Please get back to me.

Steve Smith (CAR) >> Steve Smith (NYG) and was great value there chim. He was the other guy I had above Boldin when he was picked and I think there is a clear drop off after him. MSW is probably in about the right spot, certainly not a massive reach or anything. I have him more or less equal with the fake Steve Smith personally and there's only maybe 1 or 2 WRs I have above him left on the board (and they're not above him by much).

I just looked at the NFL pools pick game on the site, it looks pretty cool.

I know there's a long time to go but would be cool to set up a game inside the game with a little on the line in that format if anyone is interested

Yea im down for survivor too!

Any amount is fine by me, the picks thing should be a little more i think, since it's a long game with lots of stuff to it, but all is fine by me

This is almost absurd imo. 25 years vs 31 years and the QB situation in Carolina is not exactly solid, may or may not have upside + they can and will run the ball a lot. He had a whopping 65 receptions last year on 128 targets and 78/129 in his great season before that. Something tells me it wasn't just a down season

Also nice job of saying I am biased towards my players...I see you do own SS-CAR ;P

Fwiw in all but I think one dynasty rankings I've looked at online SS-CAR is ranked above SS-NYG. Not sure they're all ppr but even still. I get the impression that a lot of people here are putting a lot of weight on age, far too much in some cases imo, especially when it comes to WR. SS-CAR is light years ahead of SS-NYG in terms of talent and although his QB situation isn't perfect it's still an improvement on last year. He will also virtually never see double coverage because teams have to respect the run and a guy with his talent against single coverage and with a QB who can get the ball within a few yards of him I would expect 75/1000/7 type numbers for few years yet.

After thinking about it a little more they're probably actually fairly close in ppr but SS-CAR (there must be an easier way of differentiating between then) has a far greater upside for the next 3-4 years and no lower of a floor for the next couple. The >> I used was meant to mean I had them in different tiers but he was at the bottom of his tier and SS-NYG was at the top so I never really meant they were miles apart. I do think I probably wasn't giving quite enough weight to the fact it is ppr and you could probably bump up the NYG version to the bottom of the same tier.

Yeah I'm putting a huge premium on age. Maybe too much so but I drafted my other team as young as I could sometimes passing up better veterans because I feel like I can pretty much cruise for 5 years now more or less and if I really need a vet to put me over the edge I'd much rather trade for one/give up draft picks for one. I think this strategy also allows me to draft differently, not going to get into details but I concider this a major .
I also ran a somewhat obsessive bunch of math before the last draft to figure in the PPR factor and I think I weight it a lot differently than other people.

My age distribution (players roughly ranked highest to lowest value):

QB: 28, 27, 32
RB: 23, 23, 24, 27, 24, 23, 23, 27, 24
WR: 26, 25, 25, 24, 27, 24, 28, 28
TE: 26, 25, 26
PK: 25

Yeah, obviously the team you ended up with last year was awesome. Drafting young is much higher variance though - you can either end up with a team like you got last year or a complete flop when a bunch of the young guys completely fail. Similarly drafting a bunch of players towards the end of their careers can be high variance too - drafting guys in the middle of their careers is generally lowest variance. Obviously it's also good to have a good mix of ages in the squad but putting too much emphasis on young potential as opposed to older proven talent is risky.
