Ramen
A Japanese noodle soup dish based off of a Chinese wheat noodle dish. Ramen is one of the few dishes that can be horrendously simple to make, and yet can be so complicated at the same time. I'm sure everyone here has had ramen at some point in time, after all students live on it apparently!
There are an unbelievable amount of variations of ramen, starting from the simplest Instant Ramen noodles that the aforementioned students buy in bulk, down to the different regions of Japan having their own ramen variation which they swear by, for example the miso ramen made famous in Hokkaido, and the tonkotsu ramen from Kyushu.
At the end of the day, it's a simple dish. Noodles in a broth/soup with some flavourings, and occasionally some meat. Nothing more than that. And yet its become one of the most popular dishes in the world.
And yes, as you can probably guess, I am a sad schmuck who makes his own Tonkotsu broth (a not so fun 14hr job!)
