Staring a new thread for this so that it doesn't get too conflated with the 3v3 mirror games the we are (hopefully) starting now.

I propose a 2v2 tournament, but best of 3 for each match up to reduce volatility a little bit.
I.e. if there were 4 teams (a, b, c, d) A would play B in a best of 3, then C would play D in a best of 3. Etc etc.

Standard rules all around. Games are of a slow format. These would be non-mirror games.

IRTM, would you ever consider a very liberal time clock. For example, once a team is up, they need to clue, pick and pass within 36 hours?? or the other team can post "autopass" and it becomes their turn. A team would be considered up once the board is updated.

I don't know what the right number of hours is, but would be nice to have something on the books in the event a slow game goes glacial. I mean it could even be 48 hours, just not forever....lol

I'm completely ok with this in theory. However, I think the time frame should be open to discussion before we kick this thing off. 36 - 48 hours seems fine to me as 24 is too fast and 60 hours seems to slow.

Id also be fine with ~36 hours with a one time extension of XX hours per series (or per tourney).

I think playing a simultaneous game 1 and 2 worked well when we ended up going to that method last time around.

If needed, players choose the game 3 spymaster - but there should be some rule where the same spymaster can't do game 3 all three rounds, or something.

We can, of course, also do a time limit.

Agree on balanced spy mastering.
I think it's as easy as saying they must alternate for g1/g2, and they must keep game 3s as balanced as possible. (Essentially flip flopping in g3s)

Aiming for 16 players here for 8 teams. If we get more or less we'll explore some sort of pool play for the first round leading to a traditional bracket style for at least the last two rounds. (Semis and finals.)

Time limits and balancing sound fine to me.

Could do pool play even with 8 teams.

Two pools of 4 teams. Each plays the other team twice (once as blue and once as red, with different spymasters for each).

Then can do a knockout round with 1A vs 2B and 1B vs 2A best of 3, then the finals.

Current Rules:
  • 48 hour timers for each team. Timer starts once the board has been updated for the past clues / guesses.
  • Round 1 will be a pool format regardless of the number of starting teams. Each match-up will be 2 game match, with each spy master going once.
  • Best 4 teams will advance to the semi finals. In the even of a tie in records after group play, average margin of victory (as scored by non-guessed words of the opposite team) will be the tie breaker.
  • Teams may choose their spy master on game 1 each round. Spy master must be difference on game 2. On game 3 or a round (semis and finals only), you may again choose your spy master but it must alternate for each game 3 after that.
  • All other standard rules apply.
  • Teams may rand their own boards and proceed as needed until their round is finished.
If you have questions during the event or need a ruling please post them in this thread.
